Producers of The Young and the Restless have pushed back the date that they hope to resume production. The new date reflects growing concern over an increase in positive coronavirus diagnoses.
The Young and the Restless has delayed its plans to resume production. The CBS soap had been working toward a July 6 return, but with a sharp uptick in coronavirus cases in California and a tightening of restrictions, the tentative restart date has been pushed back a week to July 13.
Last week, Y&R execs reportedly sent a letter to the show's cast and crew, notifying them of their plan to get back into production. However, it was stressed that the July 6 date was only a goal. Y&R producers have reportedly been eyeing its sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, as an example of how to possibly get back to filming.
The Bold and the Beautiful, which was the first U.S. soap to return to production last week after a brief COVID-19 testing hiccup, is not expected to change its production schedule. ABC's General Hospital, which has also eyed an early-to-mid July restart date, has not yet announced any plans to change course.

Deadline was first to report the news of Y&R's delay.
UPDATE (July 9, 2020): Sources have confirmed to Soap Opera Digest that The Young and the Restless will be going ahead with its plans to resume production the week of July 13. The CBS soap opera has set up new safety rules and protocols similar to its sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, which has been successfully back in production since Wednesday, June 24, following a slight hiccup the week prior concerning coronavirus testing methods. Soap Central will be providing additional updates on Y&R's status as they come, so keep checking back for information on that as well as the future production plans of General Hospital and Days of our Lives.
