The Young and the Restless' Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Newman) doesn't think the CBS soap will replace Adam now that Justin Hartley has vacated the role.
The future of The Young and the Restless' Adam has been up in the air since news came this May that NBC was picking up the primetime series This Is Us, starring portrayer Justin Hartley in a plum role. Now that the actor has officially departed Genoa City, the obvious thing fans have been buzzing about is whether or not the CBS soap will recast the beloved character once more.
While no official word has come from the powers that be at Y&R, Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Newman) shares that she's doubtful her on-screen love will be recast.

"I really don't think they'll [do another story in which Adam returns with a new face] and I'm not just saying that," she told Michael Fairman. "I truly don't think there's going to be another Adam... but who knows? As of now, I don't think there is a plan to [recast him]."
While some fans might be crushed to hear Egan's opinion, others are no doubt relieved simply because the "Adam returns" story has already been told. As viewers of the show likely recall, Michael Muhney's departure from the role in 2014 led to a story in which presumed-dead Adam returned nine months later -- played by Justin Hartley -- with a new face that came after a horrendous car accident.
Would you like to see the character of Adam recast, or would you prefer the show focus on other characters for the time being? If he were recast, who would you love to see in the role?
