Elizabeth Hendrickson on her Emmy nom, red carpet risk and brand new project

The former Y&R star dishes on the past, present, and future.

Elizabeth Hendrickson walked away from her role as The Young and the Restless' Chloe Mitchell last year, and her emotional goodbye scenes earned her a spot on this year's Outstanding Supporting Actress list. Surprisingly enough, she almost didn't even submit herself in the race! For more on that, as well as what surprises fans can expect from the actress in the coming days, check out Soap Central's interview with the actress below.

soapcentral.com: Congratulations on your nomination! Your reel was so emotional. Do you remember the day you were filming those scenes?Elizabeth Hendrickson: Yes, I do. It was my last episode. Well, actually, that was one we did out of order. I didn't do it on my very, very last day. Normally, we do everything in order, and that one, I think I did a week before I left. And I was really upset because I really wanted to do it on my last day. But it actually ended up turning out better that I did it beforehand, because I had a lot more emotion. On my last day, I was so much more focused on everyone else, because I wanted to say goodbye to everyone. So I had gotten flowers for certain people and letters and notes and all of my little things to give to people. So basically, on my last day, I was running around the studio, dropping things in people's rooms and things like that. So I was really glad. Those scenes are really important to me, so I got to take the time that it deserved and was required.

soapcentral.com: Was it difficult for you to figure out what scenes to submit, or did those seem like the obvious choice immediately?Hendrickson: You know, I wasn't going to submit.

soapcentral.com: Really?Hendrickson: Yeah, and then they were like, "You're crazy! Just submit something." So I said, "Okay, we'll just take the last show." That was it.

soapcentral.com: Do you have your dress picked out for Sunday?Hendrickson: I do. I wear [the same designer] ever year, Shareen, but I'm doing something I've never done before. I'm not going classically beautiful this year. I'm going a little bit more fashiony.

soapcentral.com: What do you think of the girls you're up against? They are some talented ladies.Hendrickson: Oh, my gosh, yes. And I'm up against some people that I've known forever. Finola Hughes [Anna Devane, General Hosptial] was one of the first women I ever worked with on daytime, when I was on All My Children. She was my aunt on the show, and in real life, I always looked up to her so much. So to even be next to her in this category is like, "Okay, bucket list. I can check that off." But everyone, I'm such a big fan of. I'm not really familiar with everyone's work this year, but I know all of their work over the past several years, and I feel so blessed to be up along with all of these incredibly, talented women.

soapcentral.com: What does it feel like having left the world of daytime only to now be back in it for the Emmy week?Hendrickson: I don't know, it's weird but it's not. I almost feel like I've just been on a really long vacation, because I see everyone, and I've known everyone for so long. It's like I didn't skip a beat.

soapcentral.com: The last time I spoke with you was last year at the Emmys, and at that time, you were auditioning and hoping to break into the comedy world. Is that still the plan?Hendrickson: Yeah, I am. I actually have to get home soon because I have two really big auditions that I need to prepare for. And I have something that I'm going to announce on Sunday, so that's something I'll be talking about. So watch for me there!
