A whop bop-a-loo bop a whop bam boo! Little Richard is set to make a special guest appearance on The Young and the Restless later this month. In scenes that will take a slightly comedic twist, the rock-n-roll singer presides over the nuptials of two Genoa City residents.
Little Richard makes a big visit to The Young and the Restless in an episode airing June 30th, when Gloria and Jeffrey (Judith Chapman and Ted Shackleford) re-tie the knot by eloping to Vegas.
Chapman got a kick out of the storyline twist. "They have a choice of an Elvis or Liberace impersonator to marry them," she laughs. "She (Gloria) ends up choosing Little Richard because he's her favorite singer."
Gloria assumes she's being wed by a Little Richard impersonator - but the joke's on her. Prankster Jeffrey has them hooked up with the real thing. Little Richard is a real life ordained minister. The Grammy award winning singer will also perform on the episode.
For those unfamiliar with the flamboyant singer, Richard Wayne Penniman was born in Macon, Georgia in 1932. The third of twelve children, Penniman was signed to an RCA Records contract in 1951 after winning a talent contest. He had a string of hits in the mid-1950s that included "Tutti Frutti", "Lucille" and "Good Golly Miss Molly." His groundbreaking work helped lay the foundation for what would later become rock and roll. Richard was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1990. In 1993, he received the long-overdue Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
