On Beyond the Gates, Joey rendezvoused with Marcel, which Jacob saw; when Jacob was sure that Joey had given Marcel money, Elon lied and told Jacob that Joey was working for the station as an informant. Elon then warned Marcel to be more careful, which Jacob saw. Doug didn't like Vanessa working with Joey, who hinted that harm would come to Doug if he didn't pay Joey back soon.
Joey and Vanessa upped their flirtation; seeing them at Orphey Gene's, Naomi remarked to her clients that Joey had been wanted by the FBI for years. Nicole was wary of Vanessa's interest in Joey, despite knowing that Vanessa wasn't in love with Doug anymore and was actively cheating on him. When Nicole told Ted about Joey buying a house for his mother, Ted reported that Joey's mother had long since died; Nicole immediately ran to Vanessa with the news. Vanessa confronted Joey, who claimed that the elderly-accessible house he was looking for was for him; he'd just been too embarrassed to be forthcoming about it. Vanessa believed him, and a jealous Diego frowned when he spotted Joey holding Vanessa's hand.
Kat confronted Eva about deleting the security footage that showed Eva going into Nicole's patient files. Eva got to Kat when she said being able to work for Nicole was one of the few opportunities she'd ever had. Kat became angry with Tomás when he suggested she talk to Naomi about dropping the suit, which he felt would hurt both his co-workers and his career plans. Kat conjured up a fantasy Tomás to mull things over with and soon forgave the real one.
Mike's accusers wanted to drop their suit against The Law Offices of Bill Hamilton, Esq. after they met with Bill without Naomi present, but Naomi convinced them to hold firm. The clients again were ready to settle when Bill offered them $1 million each; Naomi found scores of loopholes in the agreement. Naomi faced pressure from Tomás, Vernon, Anita, and even Dani to either drop the case or let another lawyer handle it; she was accused more than once of only having her own best interests at heart instead of her clients'. While Naomi and Bill were arguing, he began slurring his words, and his hand went numb, though he insisted afterwards he was fine. Naomi caught Hayley trying to negotiate with one of her clients and insisted that Hayley back off.
Hayley also worked to persuade Chelsea to make up with Bill; Chelsea visited her father but revealed she didn't trust him. When Hayley lamented that she was being shunned by everyone at Fairmont Crest, Bill went to Dani under the pretext of selling their summer house to talk her into getting her supporters to accept Hayley – but while the exes were reminiscing, Dani kissed Bill. Dani was sure Bill had wanted it; Bill told Hayley everything about his visit with Dani except the kiss.
Dani assumed she'd be managing Chelsea in her new purse design career; Chelsea demanded her mother stay out of the business, though she later apologized for her bluntness. Chelsea rethought Dani's idea to do the fashion show while carrying one of her purse products, agreeing it was both a great finale for her old career and a great launch for her new one. Dani nearly drank three times; she invited Andre over as a distraction, and they made love. Andre promised he'd be there whenever she called.
Andre got hired to do a documentary about the nurses at Garland Memorial. Andre admitted to Nicole that he often stayed away from town because of the bad memories associated with his parents' deaths. Ashley wanted to know why Andre was avoiding her; he willingly resumed their friendship, though Ashley's supervisor, Shanice, saw sparks between them. After Jacob intuited that Andre was interested in Ashley, Derek invited Andre to dinner, where Ashley suggested Derek be a part of the documentary. Derek was stilted while Andre interviewed him, at least until Ashley joined him on-camera; Andre was put off by their affection.
