On Beyond the Gates, Vanessa waved off Diego's report of the rumors going around about Vanessa and Joey. Vanessa tired of Diego's jealousy and asked if he should be off correcting someone's form. He noted that Mrs. Bill Hamilton had cancelled; Vanessa grinned that Team Dani had finally cancelled Hayley. One couldn't buy company or class, Vanessa snarked. Diego intimated that the Hamiltons had bought her, since she'd sold them their house; Vanessa wasn't going to let “that bougie wannabe” Hayley hurt her bottom line. Diego proclaimed himself a judgment-free zone and asked Vanessa to meet him in five minutes at their “special spot” (the closet). Vanessa declined but then ran after Diego once he left.

Ted confirmed that Joey's mother was not alive – he knew the plastic surgeon who had left town after Mrs. Armstrong died on his table, as the doctor was afraid of Joey's retaliation. Nicole became even more worried about Vanessa after learning of Joey's lie. Nicole was annoyed that Ted hadn't told her how intimidating Joey was and immediately phoned Vanessa to tell her what she had learned. Unable to reach her, Nicole dashed off to the club.

Nicole found a post-coital Vanessa, who said she had been unavailable due to “self-care.” Nicole wanted details about Joey and the house he wanted to buy for his mom; Vanessa went over trying to find something luxurious and accessible for the grand dame. When Nicole blurted out that the woman had died, Vanessa wanted to let Joey know immediately that he'd just lost his mother, but Nicole passed on what Ted had told her about the woman dying and the doctor running out of fear of Joey. Vanessa was shocked that her gut had been that far off about Mr. Armstrong. She called Joey and demanded to see him immediately.

Nicole didn't want to leave Vanessa alone with Joey. Vanessa vowed she'd tell Joey to see a shrink if he came off like he believed his mother was actually alive – or throttle him if he'd been playing her. After promising to text Nicole as soon as her convo with Joey was finished, Vanessa saw Joey and said that a horrible feeling had washed over her about his mother. Joey realized that Vanessa knew his mother was really dead and wondered how she'd found out; Vanessa wanted to know why Joey had lied.

Joey explained how his aging mother had clung to her one-time beauty, which had led to her dying during cosmetic surgery. Vanessa was sorry, then surprised as Joey revealed that needing a house for an older person had been true – it was just that he needed it for himself. His vanity had prevented him from being honest because Vanessa was “men trip over themselves in the street” beautiful. Yet, he admired how Vanessa was more than a pretty face and how she had explored her ambitions – which his mother hadn't. Vanessa didn't think Joey needed to be thinking about his mortality prematurely; he was a zaddy. Joey ribbed that he'd have to look the word up. Vanessa felt that Joey had lied because he'd underestimated her; she didn't care how old he was. Diego watched as Joey took Vanessa's hand and said he didn't want anything coming between them.

Hayley saw Derek at Orphey Gene's and commented on Andre's article about him saving a cat from a burning building. Derek demurred but remembered that Naomi's best friend had an affinity for cats; Hayley was bummed that she was no longer in group chats with Derek, Ashley, Naomi, and Jacob because of her marrying Naomi's father. Derek said that he and Ashley hadn't particularly shunned Hayley; they had just barely known her when everything went down. Hayley griped about how Dani's influence left her persona non grata. Retrieving her pick-up order, Hayley thanked Derek for helping her to feel less despised. Derek relayed how not long ago he'd chatted fantasy football with a guy he'd thought was from another planet (Andre) – Derek surmised there were other friends out there for Hayley to find.

Andre was busy setting up a shot at the hospital when Ashley came off the elevator. He hoped Ashley was ready for her close-up. Later, Andre began interviewing Garland Memorial's nurses on-camera; Shanice watched and bragged that, given her depth of knowledge, Andre was going to have to build a sequel around her. Shanice was not the only nurse to flirt with Andre instead of giving him substantial answers; rather, she fumbled over the details she had confidently listed off to Ashley. Shanice then changed the subject to Ashley and how she had helped deliver a baby in the elevator on her first day of duty.

It was then Ashley's turn; she spoke of how she'd fixed up her dolls as a child while other girls were playing princess. When the topic came to the woman in labor, Ashley suggested Andre turn the camera on himself since she couldn't have guided the new mother through childbirth without him. Shanice took note of Andre and Ashley's connection. Derek arrived, all dressed up, but was painfully uncomfortable during his interview, so Andre had Ashley join him on camera. Derek relaxed with Ashley, holding his hand, and he was able to relay being in awe watching her in her element while he'd been hospitalized. Andre, affable up until this point, froze up when Ashley tenderly kissed Derek's cheek.

Dani was on the phone with the fashion show organizers, discussing a replacement for Chelsea. Dani rejected the potential models mentioned because none of them had as many followers as Chelsea or could fit into the Smithsonian dress. Dani hung up and was about to take a drink when Chelsea and Kat arrived with their first purse prototype. Dani loved it but lamented how she still hadn't been able to find a model for the upcoming show. Chelsea said she would walk the runway – as long as she could brandish her new bag while doing it.

Dani was pleased that Chelsea had agreed to her idea but wanted to know if Chelsea's change of mind meant her daughter was handling her with kid gloves like everyone else. Chelsea mentioned Hayley had told her about Dani breaking into Hayley's house, which the upset Dani called a misunderstanding. Chelsea and Kat felt that Chelsea doing the show was both the perfect finale for Chelsea's modeling career and the perfect launch for the purse line. Dani spoke to the organizers again and appreciated their thinking she could have come out of retirement for the fashion show; Dani was just as happy Chelsea would work the runway one last time.

As Bill argued with Naomi in his office, he started moving his hand erratically and slurring his words. Naomi grabbed her phone to call 911 after Bill's hand went numb. Even though Naomi named arm pain as a sign of a heart attack, Bill said only his hand was the problem, and he gently hung up Naomi's phone, adding that he felt better. Naomi was concerned that their fighting might have affected Bill's health; Bill quipped that if that were true, Dani would have killed him years ago. Bill also promised that the incident wasn't a ploy to get Naomi to drop her suit. Naomi was glad Bill was all right because she wanted him in tip-top shape when she beat him in court.

A sullen Naomi entered Dani's house and needed a hug. Dani figured Naomi had come looking for a boost in terms of her lawsuit against Bill. Naomi was cheesed that Bill had told Dani about it and had likely tried to get Dani to discourage Naomi, but Dani cheered Naomi on and predicted that she would “clean his clock.” Dani couldn't wait to see Naomi forcing Bill to tell the jury about his affair with Hayley in the workplace. Moreover, she wanted Naomi to describe the look on Bill's face when he found out his daughter was bringing suit. “He must have had a heart attack,” Dani presumed gleefully. Naomi's face fell.

Dani gave Naomi her full support, but, upon hearing how angry Bill had been, Dani wondered if it was time for Naomi to let someone else carry the case forward. As the scorned woman, Dani longed to see Bill burn – but as a mother, Dani didn't want Naomi to lose what she'd once had with her father because he'd changed wives. Naomi was bowed, but her conflict came from knowing other lawyers were afraid of Bill, while she wasn't. Naomi was ready to get justice for her clients...and for Dani.

Hayley brought Bill their food and was glad she was at least welcome at Orphey Gene's. Mrs. Hamilton told a frustrated Mr. Hamilton to let go of trying to get her accepted at the country club; those “snobby bitches” were never going to defrost. Talk turned to Naomi's case; Bill laid out how he'd had Mike's accusers in the palm of his hand until Naomi shot down his settlement offer. Hayley offered to talk to the alleged victims woman-to-woman, prompting Bill to ask why it was okay for her to fight his battles but not for him to fight hers. Hayley declared that the lawsuit was their battle.

Bill was surprised by a visit from Chelsea, but she wouldn't hug him. She described how Hayley had appealed to her to forgive him. Bill swore he hadn't sent Hayley to manipulate Chelsea and that he was only first hearing of the encounter. He wondered if Chelsea's appearance meant she was ready to resume their father-daughter relationship; he hated the distance between them. Chelsea didn't know how Bill could go from loving Dani to ditching her. Who was next, Chelsea? Naomi? The father Chelsea had known wouldn't have treated Dani that way, and the father she had, she didn't trust. Bill swore that as long as he had breath in his body, their connection would endure...but Chelsea walked out.

Next, Dani called, blaming Bill for putting their daughter in a position where she had to face him in court. Bill insisted that Naomi had made her own choice to sue him, but Dani spat that his firm was as much of a baby to him as Naomi was and that Bill was the person who could hurt Naomi the most.

Hayley met with one of Mike's accusers, Becky, who said she had been told not to speak to Mike or Bill or Tomás. Hayley announced that she wasn't on that list and that Bill didn't know they were talking. When Hayley pointed out that she and Becky had been friends, Becky aired her resentment over Hayley getting the promotion that Becky had been up for before she had been fired for complaining about Mike. Hayley acknowledged that she shouldn't have accepted the step up the ladder and urged Becky to take the settlement – after which they could work together to make Bill's firm a safe place for women to work.

Naomi caught Hayley trying to convince the disbelieving Becky and sent Becky home. When Naomi pondered how a judge would react to the defendant's wife trying to coerce a witness, Hayley owned up to how much her husband and former friend were hurting because of her. Hayley wanted to make things whole. The only thing Naomi thought Hayley could do to improve the situation was to “stay the hell away.”

Ted thought back to his multiple confrontations with “Sherry” and how she'd extorted another $50,000 out of him to keep her quiet. Kat arrived and helped him log into his on-line calendar; he wondered what he'd do once Kat was off conquering the fashion world with Chelsea.

Later, Nicole came home to find Kat, who told her mom about Chelsea's modeling swan song. Nicole was sure her sister was thrilled. Kat wished Nicole luck with her “delulu” patient and scurried off; Nicole was confused as to what Kat meant.

Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount Plus.
