The Hunting Party premiered on NBC in January this year and was able to achieve a dedicated fan following in a short span of time. The crime drama has made its own place among procedural shows in just 10 episodes.

The series revolves around FBI Special Agent Rebecca "Bex" Henderson, who is tasked with tracking down a group of serial killers who have escaped prison. The finale episode, which aired on April 7, 2025, ended on a cliffhanger, which has left the audience waiting for The Hunting Party Season 2.

However, the show has not been officially renewed for a second chapter. That being said, the series creators have already laid out a plan for how they want to take the story forward, as they are hopeful of renewal.

The renewal status of The Hunting Party Season 2

At the time of writing, The Hunting Party Season 2 has not been confirmed by NBC. The network might take a few days or weeks to analyze the audience’s response to the first season before deciding on its renewal.

A number of factors are taken into consideration before announcing a show’s continuation, including viewership ratings, commercial success, and budget. The show was able to maintain steady ratings in the first season, which is certainly a positive sign.

Meanwhile, the series creators have already expressed their interest in continuing the storyline. They ended the first season with more questions than answers, which could pave the way for The Hunting Party Season 2.

However, NBC holds the final authority in deciding the show’s fate. Hence, we need to wait for an official announcement by the network. If the series does get renewed for a second season soon, it could become a part of NBC’s fall or winter schedule. Therefore, a potential second season of the show could premiere in the fall of 2025 or by early 2026.

What could The Hunting Party Season 2 be about?

The most important question that the next chapter needs to answer is about Oliver’s fate. Played by Nick Wechsler, Oliver seemed to have died in the first season’s finale; however, series creator JJ Bailey has teased that he could still be alive.

In an interview with TV Insider, Bailey said that the second installment will also focus on Ryan Hassani accepting his wife’s death and growing closer to the team:

“I think in Season 2, giving him [Hassani] a personal journey where he can find peace and acceptance through conversations with Bex and with the team, it provides an opportunity for them to grow closer in Season 2 as those personal things do get revealed by choice as opposed to finding out without him telling the team.”

As for what is next for Bex, the FBI Special Agent's team has been shut down, and she will be pushing to get it back on track. Talking about the plot, Bailey stated:

“In Season 1, Bex is sort of brought into this, and in Season 2, she’s going to have to be sort of pushing to get in. Does that make sense? So I think it’s a different journey for her to get the team restarted as opposed to being brought in and caught up to speed.”

If The Hunting Party Season 2 gets greenlit, Melissa Roxburgh is expected to reprise her role as Bex, along with Patrick Sabongui as Ryan Hassani, Josh McKenzie as Shane Florence, and Sara Garcia as Jennifer Morales. It remains to be seen if Nick Wechsler will return to the show, as Oliver Odell's fate currently remains unclear.

The Hunting Party is available to stream on Peacock.
