Nathan Riggs, played by Martin Henderson in Grey's Anatomy, was introduced in season 12 of the show as a skilled cardiovascular surgeon joining the hospital. Why did Nathan Riggs leave Grey's Anatomy?

Grey's Anatomy debuted in 2005 and has become one of the longest-running medical dramas, with season 22 of the show currently airing on ABC. Several characters appeared and vanished during these years. One of the most beloved characters who appeared for a three-season stint but was immensely liked by fans was Nathan Riggs. Introduced in season 12, the character had to bid farewell to the show in season 14.

However, the character has seen major ups and downs dealing with personal and professional challenges over that short period, which completes his arc. He appeared on screen as April Kepner's friend. When he gets involved romantically with Meredith Grey, we see his most vulnerable side. He reveals about his late fiancee, who was also Owen's sister, who disappeared when her helicopter was found not to have arrived at its destination.

Even before that, things between them were not good as Nathan cheated on her. This became the reason for Nathan and Owen's crude behaviour toward each other. However, when in season 14, Megan was brought back, this shook Nathan and Owen's lives.

Nathan is shown moving to California after getting back with Megan. The makers planned for Riggs to be on the show only for a short period, and therefore, Henderson only had a 2 year contract with ABC.

Martin Henderson is a New Zealand actor best known for his roles in both television and film. He was born on October 8, 1974, in Auckland, New Zealand. Martin Henderson first gained attention in his home country with his role in the New Zealand television series Shortland Street, where he played the character Stuart Neilson in the 1990s.

In 2002, he appeared in The Ring, a supernatural horror film alongside Naomi Watts, playing the role of Noah, a journalist investigating the mysterious videotape that causes viewers to die seven days after watching it. Smokin' Aces (2006) is another film he shares credits in. However, Grey's Anatomy is one of his most notable works.
