Almost fifteen years have passed, and Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto's real identity remains a secret. However, HBO's Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery claims to know who Nakamoto is, and will only disclose it after the release of the upcoming documentary.
Bitcoin is the world's first successful and most popular cryptocurrency, created under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, which can be a group of people or an individual. One of the reasons why Bitcoin always remains a hot topic is the hidden identity of its creator. Typically, when a person invents something huge, they quickly reveal their identity.
However, with Bitcoin, the case is entirely different. Throughout the years, there have been speculations that one of these three men—Nick Szabo, Hal Finney, and Craig Wright—could be Satoshi Nakamoto, but none of them has been proven.
Following the speculation, HBO released the first trailer of Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery on October 4, 2024, stating that this documentary will let viewers know the real identity of Nakamoto.

HBO to reveal Satoshi Nakamoto's identity through Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery
Since its inception, HBO has released numerous documentaries, covering controversial and globally popular stories. One of its latest upcoming documentaries is Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery which will take viewers on a quest to find Satoshi Nakamoto, who's currently having control over 1.1 million Bitcoin, worth around $66 billion.
The first trailer of Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery is going incredibly viral, as fans are curious if the documentary will actually reveal Nakamoto's name or if the quest will end with a question mark. Bitcoin was introduced to the world right after the financial crisis through the paper “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System" in 2008.
By January 2009, we saw the first Bitcoin transaction, initiating the entire Bitcoin system. As previously mentioned, there have been multiple theories about the creator including computer scientist Nick Szabo being Nakamoto since he had worked on Bit Gold, a cryptocurrency before Bitcoin came out.
The other two names suggested to be Nakamoto include American software developer Hal Finney, and computer scientist Craig Wright who claimed being the Bitcoin creator. Since Wright failed at proving to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the hunt continued.
However, this could end after the release of Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, directed by Cullen Hoback. The director and producer worked on documentaries including Q: Into The Storm; What Lies Upstream; and Terms and Conditions May Apply.
Who will appear in HBO's Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery?
Since it's a documentary, viewers will get to see exclusive interviews they've never seen before. Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery will feature the director himself, Blockstream's CEO Adam Back, Azteca's chairperson Ricardo Salinas Pliego, famous investor Roger Ver, and other personalities with knowledge about the case and the mystery.
As seen in the trailer, the documentary dives deep into Bitcoin's origin and its creator. While some people might feel skeptical about Bitcoin, others who have been investing in the cryptocurrency enjoy decentralization, which means the government has no control over it.
Moreover, its value has seen a significant rise in recent years, making some of the investors incredibly rich. And when it comes to security, the transaction is recorded using Blockchain, one of the safest technologies.
So, if you wish to know more about the Bitcoin mystery and Satoshi Nakamoto, do not miss Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, coming this Tuesday on HBO. Meanwhile, you can explore other documentaries on the streamer.
