After a wait of almost two years, HBO's The Last of Us finally kicked off with its Season 2 premiere, which saw a five-year time jump in Ellie and Joel's story.
Season 2 saw the return of Pedro Pascal's Joel and Bella Ramsey's Ellie, along with a host of new characters, some original and some important characters from the video game.
The premiere mainly focused on Ellie and Joel's life in Wyoming after a five-year time jump and how their relationship has drastically changed following Joel's lie in the Season 1 finale.
Here are all the new characters in The Last of Us Season 2.
New cast and characters in The Last of Us Season 2
1) Kaitlyn Dever as Abby
One of the most important (and controversial) castings for The Last of Us Season 2 was Dever's Abby. Dever is an established actress who has previously shown her acting chops in Netflix's Unbelievable. Apple Cider Vinegar and Booksmart.
Abby is a character from the video games, a part of the Firefly community, who was massacred by Joel in Season 1 to save Ellie. Her character was introduced in the Season 2 premiere, and she is hell-bent on avenging her father's death at the hands of Joel.
2) All the actors in the Firefly community
Four new actors debuted in The Last of Us Season 2 premiere as part of Abby's Fireflies community, who eventually join her in the quest to find Joel.
Actor Danny Ramirez plays the role of Manny, a reliable soldier who joins Abby's mission for the massacre he witnessed in his community. Ramirez is famously known for On My Block, Black Mirror, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Actress Tati Gabrielle debuted as Nora in Season 2, a medic Firefly in Abby's mission. Tati Gabrielle is famously known for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Owl House, and You.
Next up, actress Ariela Barer plays the role of Mel in The Last of Us Season 2, another medic and a fellow Firefly member, Owen's girlfriend. She has previously appeared in Saved By The Bell, Runaways, and Atypical.
Lastly, actor Spencer Lord plays the role of Owen, another Firefly soldier who will help Abby in her mission to kill Joel. He is best known for Riverdale, Heartland, and Family Law.
3) Robert John Burke as Seth
Actor Robert Burke debuted as Seth in the Season 2 premiere, a character from the video games. Seth is a homophobic bar owner in Jackson who interrupted Ellie and Dina's dance at the New Year's party when he saw the two kissing. Joel finally wards him off.
Burke is best known for Oz, Rescue Me, Kidnapped, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
4) Catherine O'Hara as Gail
An original character, O'Hara plays Gail, Joel's therapist, in the Season 2 premiere. After his falling out with Ellie, Joel is seen attending therapy sessions with Gail, who reveals that he killed her husband, Eugene, probably because he was infected. Though he only appears in pictures, actor Joe Pantoliano plays Eugene.
O'Hara is best known for her performances in Schitt's Creek, Home Alone, The Studio, and Beetlejuice.
The Last of Us Season 2 will also feature some original characters. These include Alanna Ubach (Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce, Mythic Quest) as Hanrahan, Ben Ahlers (The Gilded Age, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Burton, and Hettienne Park (Blind Spot, Hannibal) as Elise Park.
