Why does Groff kill his son to get the Blue Crown in Outer Banks?
The Blue Crown is said to be so powerful that it makes its owner almost invincible. It also has the power to grant a single wish. But that is not the reason why Chandler Groff killed JJ. The primary reason for the killing is that the one in possession of the crown could sell it for millions of dollars and be set for life.
The fourth season of Outer Banks shows that The Pogues are looking for the Crown in Morocco, but they are not alone. The Lupine Corsairs are a team of highly professional mercenaries who have been hunting it for ages. They are resourceful and will not hesitate to harm anyone who stands in their way.
However, it soon becomes clear that Chandler Groff is worse than the Lupine Corsairs. He was a member of the group but let greed get the better of him and went off on his own to join the hunt for the crown. Already guilty of many murders, he has no qualms about killing a few more.
Everything that occurs in the Outer Banks season 4 finale episode
The two-part finale of Outer Banks season 4 follows Pogues and Rafe as they attempt to find the Blue Crown in Morocco with Dalia's mercenaries, including JJ's biological father, Chandler Groff. The owner, Chandler Groff, once again feigns loyalty to Dalia's crew after betraying his son in the previous episode, but the act does not last long.
Seeing Groff as a means to an end, Dalia orders Lightner to kill Groff. It is Rafe who saves him in the nick of time. Groff then tries to stab Rafe in the back, and the latter pushes the former into an empty well before leaving him to die in the sand. JJ and the rest of the Pogues come upon Groff in the well. He tries to beg for his life on his knees but is rebuffed by JJ, who, now aware of all his lies and deceit, leaves him in the dust.
Later, JJ receives the blue crown, but his victory lasts only as long as Groff manages to free himself from the well. Groff takes Kiara hostage and threatens to kill her unless JJ hands over the treasure. JJ hands over the crown to save his life, but Groff then stabs his son in the stomach.
JJ dies of his wounds with Kiara by his side. The episode's final scene shows the Pogues sitting around a campfire, mourning their loss. Here, Rafe convinces them to seek revenge for JJ's death by finding Groff, foreshadowing the epic battle of the final season.
