Warner Bros. Discovery's Harry Potter reboot series has officially started adding names to its cast of actors. HBO announced a reboot of the beloved children's books by J.K. Rowling, which have already been adapted into a live-action film series.

Since books have to offer a lot, and a two-hour movie can only suffice for much of the text, a new series is being developed that will explore books more deeply than movies.

It looks like the series has got one of its main characters, Professor Dumbledore, as Variety reported that Mark Rylance has been approached to play the Hogwarts Headmaster.

Rylance is the first actor to be rumored as a cast member for the series. The titular characters of Harry, Hermoine, and Ron will be newcomers.

The production sent an open casting call for child actors between the ages of 9 and 11 to audition for these respective roles.

More about Mark Rylance's role in the Harry Potter reboot series.

Will Mark Rylance play Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series?

Actor Mark Rylance has been approached to play the role of Professor Dumbledore in the series. The actor is currently seen as Thomas Cromwell in the BBC One series Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light.

There has been no confirmation on the actor's part for the role. It was reported that the series will cover each of Rowling's books per season, making it at least seven seasons long. Any actor confirming to be a part of the series has to consider this huge commitment.

Rylance has appeared in movies like Dunkirk, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Don't Look Up, and Ready Player One. He has also won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies.

Francesca Gardiner was selected as the showrunner and writer, while Mark Mylod will direct multiple episodes and serve as an executive producer.
