His & Hers is Netflix's latest mystery thriller limited series based on Anna Feeney's 2020 eponymous book. The six-episode series dropped on the streaming platform on January 8 and is the perfect weekend binge for anyone craving a small-town murder mystery.
The series stars Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal as two estranged spouses, Anna and Jack. Netflix's latest psychological thriller series is an adaptation of Alice Feeney's 2020 novel, which is originally set in Blackdown, a sleepy and quintessential British village. But the Netflix adaptation changed this English setting to Dahlonega, a similar American town in Georgia that becomes the breeding ground for murder and secrets.
The filming for Netflix's latest six-part murder mystery took place primarily in Georgia, particularly in Metro Atlanta and Lumpkin County. The creators and crew wanted to capture the small-town aesthetic and the Southern vibe in Feeney's story.
Here are some notable filming locations for His & Hers:
Dahlonega, Lumpkin County, Georgia
Dahlonega is the titular small town that becomes a murder spot in His & Hers. The county seat of Lumpkin County, Georgia, is the primary filming location for the series. The small rural village is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the northeastern part of Georgia. The crew especially shot in the surrounding areas of North Chestatee Street and the town's historic square. Chestatee Street is a central boulevard and was used to film many important sequences.
Additional filming took place in and around Damascus Church Road, which runs between Lewis School Road and John Crow Road. The open landscape and natural surroundings of the backroads provided the perfect location and the movement of the locals was restricted for a fixed amount of time. According to multiple media outlets, the His & Hers crew was excellent in crowd management. They not only placed necessary signage but also provided information about detours and alternate routes.
Metro Atlanta, Georgia
Other than Dahlonega, filming for His & Hers also took place in Metro Atlanta, the most populous metropolitan area in Georgia and the eighth-largest in the United States. It is no surprise that Metro Atlanta served as the ideal filming location for the Netflix series. Dubbed the Hollywood of the South, Atlanta is a popular filming location for many Netflix productions, especially due to its Southern charm, easy access to seasoned actors, state-of-the-art production studios, favorable weather conditions, and natural landscape.
In addition to Metro Atlanta, the crew also traveled to the town of Conyers, in Rockdale County, east of downtown Atlanta, to film some important sequences. Additional filming locations also include Stone Mountain in DeKalb County, Eagle Rock Studios, and the production complex located at 1375 Beverage Drive S2, the latter of which comprises two massive sound stages.
Cast of His & Hers
Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress Tessa Thompson and The Punisher star Jon Bernthal lead the His & Hers cast as estranged spouses Anna and Jack, respectively. Since Feeney's novel unfolds through the dual point of view of Anna and Jack, Thompson and Bernthal do most of the heavy lifting throughout the six episodes of the series.
