According to recent reports, Severance Season 3 is expected to begin filming in April 2026. Apple TV's critically acclaimed sci-fi psychological thriller wrapped its sophomore season run in March 2025.

Severance is a dystopian workplace drama series that follows Mark (Adam Scott) and his team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. The sophomore entry ended on a massive cliffhanger, setting an exciting fate for the Lumon Industries' employees.

Ever since the show wrapped its second season, fans have been eagerly waiting for an update on Severance Season 3. This alleged filming update suggests that the show can likely hit our screens in Fall 2027.

More on this in our story.

Severance Season 3 will reportedly begin filming soon

According to the latest reports, Severance Season 3 is set to film from April to December 2026. While the production timeline may seem lengthy, Severance is a high-budget, high-craft series, with earlier seasons also taking nearly nine months to film. The previous seasons were also disrupted because of pandemic-related restrictions and WGA/SAG strikes. However, filming for one season of the Emmy-winning series roughly takes nine months.

Factoring in another seven to eight months of post-production, including editing, sound design, and music, Severance Season 3 is expected to premiere in Fall 2027.

Executive producer and director Ben Stiller explained the lengthy filming process for Severance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon as:

"We have our own process. It's tough because people do love the show. People love the show and then they're always like, 'When is the next season? When is the next season?' And it's always, 'We're working on it.' But we've only done 19 episodes over five and a half years on the show. I think Young Sheldon's done 600 episodes in that time."

Stiller concluded that Severance Season 3 would be returning 'soon-ish,' hinting that the show could begin filming soon.

In a separate update, Stiller also confirmed that he would not be returning to the director's chair in the upcoming season but would remain involved in the production process. While Stiller directed six of the nine episodes (including the finale, which is the highest-rated episode of the series) in Season 1 and five out of the ten in the sophomore season, he is passing the torch to new talents in the upcoming season.

What can you expect from Severance Season 3?

Severance Season 3 is expected to pick up from the nail-biting cliffhanger that concluded the second season. While Mark spent much of the sophomore season fighting against Lumon Industries and searching for his wife Gemma (Dichen Lachman), he chose his connection with Helly (Britt Lower) in the end. After Mark managed to bring Gemma to the non-severed exit stairwell, he ran with Helly deeper into Lumon Industries.

The last freeze frame of Mark and Helly running through the Lumon corridors suggests innie Mark's choice to stay with Helly, even if that means sacrificing his Outie's life outside.

While Apple TV has yet to reveal the official plot details for Severance Season 3, creator Dan Erickson teased an exciting and intense season in his interview with Us Weekly:

''They're gonna be mad, they're gonna be yelling at the TV, but they're gonna be excited.' And then a couple of other key moments in Season 2, I got that same feeling. I've had that feeling more writing Season 3 than in any previous season. I think there are going to be a ton of moments that surprise people and rile people up, and I think it's going to be weird and funny, and all of the things that hopefully people continue to love about the show."

Severance Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Apple TV.
