In the police procedural drama, The Rookie, the LAPD officers have protected the city from numerous threats and have also gone through life-threatening situations. While some don't survive such incidents, many others continue harboring their trauma.
Lucy Chen, played by Melissa O’Neil, survives a kidnapping and murder attempt in Season 2 of The Rookie. In Episode 10, she meets a man named Caleb Wright (Michael Cassidy), who cateches her attention. While she thinks she has found a new man in her life, Caleb turns out to be her nightmare. They meet at a bar, he mixes something in her drink and kidnaps her, and locks her in the trunk of his car.

The Rookie: Lucy gets kidnapped
In Episode 10 of The Rookie Season 2, Lucy meets Caleb in the bar. While Bradford is initially apprehensive about Lucy’s attention on the man, he later tells her to grab a drink with someone, to unwind herself from the stress of the Rosalind Dyer case.
She then meets Caleb, who sedates her by mixing something in her drink. It is later revealed that Caleb worked with Rosalind, and not Bryan Coleman. Caleb is actually the one who killed Coleman and stole his identity.
Caleb, a serial killer, abducts Lucy and locks her in the trunk of his car. He then takes her to a remote location.
Later in Episode 11 of The Rookie Season 2, Lucy wakes up and finds herself tied to a chair, while Caleb tattoos the date of her death on her body. Lucy doesn’t lose hope and tries to provoke Caleb by telling him that Rosalind is the one who controls everything, and not him.
She also tries to fight him to escape, but he takes control of her and orders her to go with him to another location by pointing a gun at her head. He then asks her to get into a steel barrel, and then buries her in the ground.
The Rookie: Bradford and the team search for Lucy
While Lucy is abducted and buried by Caleb, her colleagues try to look for her. Nolan, Bradford, and the team talk to Rosalind, and discover that she has been communicating with the outside world through smuggled goods. In Episode 11 of Season 2, Wesley also helps in the search for Rosalind to find anything that could help them rescue Lucy from Caleb.
They learn about a farm that the Dyer family owned, where they go to search for Lucy. Apart from Lucy, Caleb also kidnaps Nick Armstrong. However, the team rescues him, and Harper shoots Caleb before he can reveal Lucy’s location.
However, Lucy had intentionally dropped her ring before Caleb put her in the barrel, resulting in the team finding the ring and rescuing Lucy from the barrel. Bradford performs CPR on her as she was not breathing when they pulled her out.
While Lucy might have survived the terrifying situation, she has been carrying the trauma of the event since then in The Rookie.
