Eyes of Wakanda premiered on August 1, 2025 with all its 4 episodes dropping together. The official synopsis of the show, as per Rotten Tomatoes, mentions:

“Eyes of Wakanda follows the adventures of brave Wakandan War Dogs of the secret organization the Hatut Zeraze throughout history. In this globe-trotting adventure, they must carry out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts lost to the world.”

One of the main interesting things about Eyes of Wakanda is its timeline that runs from 1260 BC to 1896. Contrasting to the general rule of MCU’s projects taking place in a post World War II world, this new MCU show follows a different and vast timeline.

Let us now explore in detail how the events of Eyes of Wakanda fit into the timeline of the franchise.

Eyes of Wakanda runs across a vast timeline

As mentioned previously, the new Marvel show follows a timeline that is quite spread and moves from one place to the other. The first episode takes place in 1260 BC and the scene of action is Crete. Not many superhero events happen in this episode, but it does take inspiration from some real life historical incidents that serve as its base.

The first episode follows Noni, a disgraced Dora Milaje member of Wakanda trying to get hold of The Lion, a War Dog who has arrived with the intention of capturing Crete and Noni tries to stop him.

Given how the war is depicted, it seems that it has taken inspiration from the Battle of Settepozzi that took place in 1263. Episode 2 then moves onto the 12th or 13th century though there is no clear reference of a timeline in this episode. However, there is a reference to the Trojan War and multiple characters from The Iliad by Homer are introduced here along with the presentation of the Trojan Horse.

Since the Trojan War essentially refers to the infamous burning of Troy, it is another historical event that coincides with the timeline that Eyes of Wakanda follows. Episode 3 then moves on to 1400 AD and introduces the character of Iron Fist Jorani. In terms of events happening in the MCU timeline, in 1362, which is an approximate date, Xu Wenwu had fought with a group of Europeans, which then led to the major events of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Episode 4 comes closer to modern times as its setting is in the year 1896. This episode also bases itself on real life historical events and one such key event is the Battle of Adwa that happened in March, 1896. In terms of fictional events within MCU itself, 1896 is an important year as that is when Agatha Harkness from Agatha All Along killed her covens to steal their power.

Marvel’s new show therefore, is connected to various important and canonical historical events, both in the fictional and non-fictional world. Besides referring to what happened in the world through its vast timeline, the show also places itself amid the various important milestone incidents within the MCU, which keeps it connected to the other projects of the franchise.

Eyes of Wakanda can be streamed on Disney+.
