A new docuseries The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will soon hit Hulu, reflecting on the 'soft swinging' scandal about the Mormon influencers, famously known as #MomTok.
This goes back to 2022, when one of the #MomTok influencers Taylor Frankie Paul announced her divorce through a TikTok livestream. Being a Mormon influencer, Frankie Paul was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), and her followers always expected her to spread positivity and focus on spiritual beliefs while also sharing about their daily lives.
However, the moment Taylor Frankie Paul revealed the reason behind her divorce in the live stream, it sent shockwaves among the audience and her followers, who later criticized her for indulging in a 'soft swinging' lifestyle.
The soft swinging lifestyle is where a couple agrees to have se*ual interaction with others but isn't allowed for intercourse. Frankie Paul admitted to violating the rules of the agreement between her and her husband Tate and even claimed that other Mormon couples messed up with this lifestyle.
In the upcoming Hulu docuseries, the #MomTok has opened up about how this scandal ruined their relationships and what was the outcome of violating the soft swinging rules. Taylor Frankie Paul also shared a reel on her Instagram, talking about The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and even included one of her old videos in which she revealed:
"No one is innocent. Everyone has hooked up with like everyone."
The docuseries will also cover the lives of other Mormon couples, as seen in the reel in which other influencers are reflecting on faking a true friendship on the internet, but in reality, they were not that close.
The scandal shook the internet that year, and not only this but Frankie Paul was arrested in 2023 over domestic violence with her boyfriend. As seen in the same reel, the police are arresting Paul over a complaint from neighbors claiming they heard someone shouting "Get off me". The whole #MomTok group was dealing with major issues after Taylor Frankie Paul's revelation.
When will The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives arrive on Hulu?
Two years after the controversial 'soft swinging scandal', the #MomTok influencers are back discussing their lives and conflicted relationships due to the scandal. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will arrive on Hulu on September 6, 2024, with all episodes coming out the same day.
The docuseries has a total of eight episodes showcasing how the scandal began, Taylor Frankie's bombshell revelations about the Mormon influencers, and how she handled the dark days in her life.
What is the plot of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives?
As previously mentioned, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will feature Mormon influencers, especially the mothers who were involved in the soft swing scandal and received immense criticism online over the breaching of the moral code of the LDS Church.
Such influencers are known for spreading spiritual thoughts, following a strange set of ethics, and staying connected to fellow Church members. However, the Mormon wives completely ignored the guidelines of being a Mormon and became highly controversial in 2022.
Who are the eight Mormon Wives on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives?
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will share the stories of eight Mormon wives, who had to deal with the aftermath of the scandal. The cast of the docuseries will include Taylor Frankie Paul, her husband Tate Paul, as well as Jen and Zack Affleck.
While talking about The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and sharing her story, Jen Affleck told People that she's:
"Excited to talk about the things that have happened in my relationship... It feels like we got ten years of marriage counseling in this one season of filming"
The other Mormon wives in the upcoming series include Mikayla Matthews, a mother to three kids who received backlash over her relationship with her husband when she was just a 16-year-old and her partner was 21.
Viewers will also know about Whitney Leavitt, Mayci Neeley who shed light on her IVF journey, and Demi Engemann who was divorced at a young age and then married an older man.
The docuseries will also reflect on the lives of Jessi Ngatikaura and Layla Taylor, who share their own stories of navigating challenges in their journey of motherhood.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will be released on Hulu on September 6, 2024.
