Nicole Kidman will star in the new Prime Video crime-thriller series Scarpetta, where she portrays the character of Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the well-known forensic pathologist from the bestselling books of Patricia Cornwell. The series Scarpetta combines contemporary forensic investigation, suspense, and personal drama as Dr. Kay returns home to her city, goes back to her former profession, and confronts a new homicidal case that is connected to old secrets.

Jamie Lee Curtis is also the co-star (and co-producer), playing the erratic sister of Kay, Dorothy Farinelli. The show has already been ordered for a second season and will be based on two timelines, revealing not only Scarpetta’s past and present but also more of the investigation.

Scarpetta is set to debut on March 11, 2026, marking another major television role for Kidman, who is also an executive producer of the project.

A little on Nicole Kidman’s character in Scarpetta

Nicole Kidman stars as Dr. Kay Scarpetta in the series Scarpetta, a chief medical examiner who is known for her tough mind, scientific orientation, and sense of justice. Prime Video claims that Scarpetta has one thing in her mission, which is to represent the victims, expose a dangerous serial killer, and show that the case that made her career decades ago will not be the one that kills her.

Kidman’s Scarpetta is not merely a forensic scientist but a complicated woman who is occupied with her past trauma, responsibilities, and the stress of a profession where she doesn't even get a moment to relax.

The show adopts the dual-timeline format, with both the present Scarpetta and the younger one played by Rosy McEwen. With the help of this structure, we can observe how a significant case that happened almost 30 years ago continues to impact her life and influence who she is and what factors motivate her at the moment.

A high-stakes thriller rooted in family and science

Scarpetta is not your ordinary crime show; forensic mystery is blended with emotional and personal drama. When Nicole Kidman's character returns to her hometown to work again as the medical examiner, she is forced to face more than tough cases. Her complicated relationship with her sister Dorothy, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, becomes a major part of the story. Their bond is filled with old grudges, buried secrets, and years of tension.

While Scarpetta fights her personal family demons, her job thrusts her into a world of high-tech forensic investigation and the emotional toll of confronting death daily. A new brutal murder case brings back painful memories from her past, leading her to believe that it's not just killers that are her real battle, but also how to work through traumatic personal baggage.

Nicole Kidman is not only the star of Scarpetta, but also an executive producer with Blossom Films, a demonstration of how deeply she is involved with the show.

Barry and Liz Sarnoff, the writers of the legendary series Lost, head the show, which features a formidable cast that includes Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Ariana DeBose, and Jamie Lee Curtis, who also produces.

The shooting started in Nashville, which was backed by Amazon, MGM Studios, and Blumhouse Television. Already with two seasons ordered, Kidman is contributing to the development of Scarpetta into a new forensic thriller of great magnitude.
