Rand in The Wheel of Time is no simple character. He is the Dragon Reborn, something no one else dreams of becoming, as it comes with its responsibilities. Is he going to save the world, or is he going to end it? The question looms over everyone's heads.

Rand al'Thor has gradually accepted the prophecy he has to fulfill, but the path he has to walk is not easy. It is especially difficult for him to be the Dragon Reborn because he is a man. In the Age of Legends, the Dark One had tainted the males (saidin), which made it extremely difficult for them to channel the One Power. In other words, males who tried to wield it went insane and caused destruction. Since then, only women have been able to channel the One Power safely.

In the sixth episode of the third season of The Wheel of Time, we see the repercussions of Rand trying to channel his power and the possible way in which his relationship with Lanfear will progress in later episodes.

What does Rand's future in The Wheel of Time look like?

Rand is slowly learning to channel his powers, but it looks like he still has a long way to go. In the latest episode of The Wheel of Time, Rand is attacked by Sammael, a Forsaken. Forsaken are followers of the Dark One, whom the Dragon Reborn is prophesied to defeat. While Aviendha intervenes to help Rand, he manages to kill Sammael by channeling his powers. However, as a result of it, he also kills the young girl, Alsera, unintentionally.

We see Rand struggle with realizing what his power can do until it is stable and in his control. He tries to revive the young girl but fails, further intensifying his pain. This makes one thing clear: Rand will struggle with the reality of power for quite some time until he can use it properly.

Other problems might arise in Rand's life soon. In the previous The Wheel of Time episode, we saw Egwene beginning to explore Tel’aran’rhiod, the World of Dreams, with her newfound power. She is shocked when she enters Rand's dream and sees him kiss Lanfear. While viewers are slightly upset at Rand kissing someone else despite being with Egwene, the other concern is his kissing a Forsaken. The Dragon Reborn kissing a Forsaken can never end well.

Lanfear has not only been in a relationship with Rand behind Egwene's back but has been tormenting Egwene through her dreams. In the sixth episode of The Wheel of Time season 3, the Wise Ones advise Egwene to fight Lanfear in her own dreams if she wants to defeat her. Meanwhile, Lanfear tells Morraine indirectly that she has a gift for Rand, which turns out to be Sammael, indicating how Lanfear is slowly trying to manipulate Rand and will continue to do so in the future.

In the sixth episode of The Wheel of Time season 3, we also see Egwene confront Rand about his alleged relationship with Lanfear behind her back. He is confused about his feelings and unable to deny or confirm his feelings for Lanfear. He is surprised to know that Lanfear has been tormenting Egwene through dreams and finally admits that, irrespective of what has happened, Egwene deserves better than what he can give her. But we do not see more of their conversation, as that's when Sammael attacks Rand.

Rand is most likely to struggle with controlling his power in the later episodes, as it is no easy task. Episode six of the third season tells us how manipulative Lanfear is and will continue to be for quite some time.

New episodes of The Wheel of Time come out on Thursdays on Amazon Prime Video.
