The recently aired Season 21 finale of Grey's Anatomy was nothing short of extraordinary. While high-stakes drama and riveting plot points have always been the hallmark of Grey's Anatomy, the Season 21 finale harkened back to the most succesful narrative tropes of the long running show while simultaneously bringing to the tabel new elements. With a burgeoning hostage crisis and even an explosion in the hospital's OR, it became clear that the recent Grey's Anatomy finale did pack a punch.

The journey of Atticus Lincoln, or Link, was particularly thought-provoking on the latest season of the show. The finale had his fate hanging in the balance as it wasn't clear whether he died in the explosion. Here's everything that we know.

Link's ultimate fate remained unclear in the finale episode of Grey's Anatomy season 21

The latest season of Grey's Anatomy was going rather well for Link as he and Jo recently tied the knot. However, owing to the exigencies of their medical profession. Thereafter, they took recourse to having their honeymoon in a closet inside the hospital. By the time they were done, they were blissfully unaware of the fact that there was a hostage crisis inside the hospital.

Once Dylan was saved and Jenna was subdued, her husband Aaron apologized for her conduct. It was then revealed that the acetylene tank with which Jenna had been threatening the doctors was empty. However, it didn't strike anyone to find out if the valve of the tank had been opened or not. Amelia resorted to asking Link to go up to the concerned floor and check if anyone was still there or not and to bring them to safety. Link proceeded, after knowing that Jo was pregnant with twins. Just then, a massive explosion shook the entire hospital and Link's ultimate fate remained unclear on Grey's Anatomy.

Showrunner opens up about Link and Jo's relationship

Meg Marinis, who first came onboard the long-running show as a writer's PA, worked her way to be the showrunner of the latest season. Marinis spoke with Variety magazine, carefully explaining all the storylines that were explored in the season twenty one finale. While speaking about Jo and Link's relationship, Marinis commented:

"With Jo and Link, they had known each other for 20 years, but their relationship fast-forwarded really quickly. It went from, “Oh my gosh, we do want to be together” to a month or two later, “We’re pregnant?!” And all of a sudden, it was twins and they were struggling with the way they looked at having kids differently, and then she had a complication. And finally, they got on the same page and decided to get married. So I feel like it’s the calm before the storm again for them. We’re “Grey’s,” we’re mean! It’s a cliffhanger, but we find out they’re having girls, which is such a nice moment. They had a beautiful wedding, and she was a beautiful pregnant bride."
