Once again, the iconic Family Guy character Peter Griffin steals the spotlight, becoming an internet sensation. In a now-viral meme, Griffin struck a death pose that fans and users have been getting plenty creative with. The character’s pose has gained millions of likes and shares across X, formerly Twitter, and Instagram.

Peter Griffin (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) is known for his impeccable humor, which knows no bounds. The adult animated series is renowned for producing some hilarious content over the years and has also generated an array of memes to date.

This particular visual gag sees Griffin on his side, appearing as dead weight, with his hands behind his back and one leg slightly lopsided on the floor. Viewers find his dramatic pose rather amusing, especially since it’s highly relatable to any situation. From comparing exhaustion to extreme situations, this one meme has taken over the internet!

How did the viral Family Guy death pose meme originate?

The viral Family Guy death pose meme originated back in season 10, episode 11, titled “The Blind Side.” The episode features the Griffin home’s newly renovated stairs, which Peter is rather skeptical about. After Stewie endures the agony of a splinter, he decides to redo the stairs himself.

However, these weren’t the stairs he built with his own two fictional hands; his wife Lois had them changed to a more unstable version. Despite his best efforts to avoid the obviously unsafe stairs, Griffin, true to his klutzy nature, ends up taking a spectacular tumble.

The result of his tumble is what we now know as the viral Family Guy death pose. His pose left him looking rather absurd and highly relatable, especially for meme creators. This pose was pure comedy gold, greatly remembered and still in use to this day.

There’s one more conspiracy about the pose’s origin story, leading many fans to believe the original pose first appeared in another series. Per Know Your Meme, theorists and internet sleuths believe the 1986 series Highlander is where writers drew inspiration for the pose.

In an episode from Season 5 (in 1997), two characters from the famed classic are seen committing suicide. One of the victims, who seems to have died, has the exact pose as Peter, in striking detail.

From the position of the body to the hands and the bent leg, it was picture-perfect. Nonetheless, whether or not Family Guy referred to the classic remains undisclosed.

How pop-culture used the viral Family Guy death pose meme?

People have used this viral Family Guy death pose on several occasions over the years. It’s primarily been used in video games, apart from the usual gags on social media.

Several popular games, like Team Fortress 2, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Deltarune, and others, have mirrored the meme in striking resemblance.

Similarly, the meme has appeared in various animated series like Steven Universe and The Cuphead Show. The portrayal of the meme across different spectrums speaks volumes about the impact it’s had. Whether or not it will appear in future games or television shows remains to be seen.
