What happened in Typhoon Family episode 1: A quick recap

The first episode of Typhoon Family introduces viewers to South Korea's local and flourishing company, Typhoon Trading. A news reporter shares glimpses into the office, which is where we meet the characters.

Tae-poong's father, Kang Ji-yeong, serves as the company's Ceo, and has supportive employees like Bae Song-jung, Myeong-gwan, Seon-taek, Mi-seon, and others. These employees have been working at the company for years, and everything seems good until a tragedy strikes.

Outside the business, Ji-yeong's son, Kang Tae-poong, is enjoying himself at the club with his best friend, and the young people at the club are labeled as the Organe Tribe (a nickname given to affluent youth in 1990s Korea known for their carefree, fashionable lifestyles).

Soon, he gets into a fight with other men at the club and ends up at the police station. Ji-yeong is tired of Tae-poong's carelessness and even slaps him for the first time. Tae-poong then finds an escape at his greenhouse, where he spends the night and later takes a train back to home.

While on the metro, he sees Mi-seon, but the two don't know each other as of now. Mi-seon is curious to watch him as Tae-poong was sleepy the whole time with a flower bouquet in his hands.

By the end of the episode, Ji-yeong made a risky deal with a company, as the partners had defaulted due to the economic downfall. He informs the employees about it and apologizes that he won't be able to pay this month's salaries.

Despite the challenge, the employees remain optimistic, hoping that the new deal will bring profit in the end. However, Ji-yeong faces a health crisis due to stress and in a heartbreaking moment, he dies.

As Tae-poong mourns his father’s death, the country faces its own financial disaster. South Korea officially turns to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout, marking a national crisis.
