Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans can probably hear the very iconic opening theme song of the show. The names of each memorable cast flashed by invoking a wave of nostalgia. What a great show it was! The primary reason it goes down as a legendary show is its humor.

From Jake Peralta looking for a window to crack a "That's what she said!" joke to Amy's rhythmless dance moves or Captain Holt's jokes that only he and his husband find funny. The show brims with an ale tankard worth of laughter, fun, and a whole lot of wholesome moments.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine went on for 8 successful seasons and concluded with a bittersweet ending on the 16th of September, 2021. The show ended with each entering the famed elevator, looking back at their precinct, and pondering over the wonderful memories created.

Now, let's look back at the characters who were the funniest on the critically acclaimed comedy series.

Funniest Brooklyn Nine-Nine characters ranked: From most to least hilarious

1) Jake Peralta

Starting off the list at the very top is the beloved Detective Jake Peralta [Andy Samburg]. Jake might be as immature as they come but he's simply phenomenal as a detective and as a character. He holds the secret to making even the most disgruntled person (sorry Caption Holt!) smile.

Jake's goofiness is followed by his iconic dialogue, "That's what she said!" combined with his easy-going personality making him the best character on the show. Furthermore, Jake practically introduced fun to the Nine-Nine through the Jimmy-Jab games and the annual Halloween Heist - it never decided who the ultimate champ was!

2) Amy Santiago

Amy Santiago [played by Melissa Fumero] might not be the ultimate comedian in comparison to her hubby Jake on the show. But, she unknowingly sparks a few giggles here and there. Amy can get incredibly awkward whenever she's in front of her boss and this results in her either embarrassing herself or earning her a quizzical glance.

Amy's highlight however is her dance moves which remain etched in the memory of hardcore fans to date! Lastly, her knack for literally not being able to say an unkind thing in the face of an insult or danger is a treat to watch. Sometimes, she really does say the wrong thing though.

3) Charles Boyle

Next on the list is Jake's designated best friend and partner in crime - Charles Boyle [Joe Lo Truglio]. Boyle is one of the most unique and supportive characters of the show. Not only would he die for Jake, but often finds himself in the comedy spotlight.

There are a plethora of instances when Boyle has left the fandom in pearls of laughter. One of the most memorable ones has been the time he showed up as a turkey or his many colorful ensembles reserved for different occasions.

4) Lieutenant Terry Jeffords

The fact that Terry Crews plays Terry Jeffords is ironic given the actor and the character have near-similar personalities. Apart from being Gina Linetti's fantasy, Lieutenant Jeffords is someone who maintains calm in the chaotic storm that is Nine-Nine.

Jefford's most memorable role was the time he and Holt teamed up to dance to relax his wife on the show when she was about to give birth. Terry is certainly an entertainer through and through!

5) Captain Holt

It's an emotional feat to bring up Captain Holt, especially because the person who portrayed him [Andre Braugher] is no more. Holt might come off as a typical captain - tough, serious, and dedicated to the force. He's all those things and more. Jake best describes him as a big old softie under all that gruff exterior.

Holt might not be the funniest ever, but he did have some pretty heartwarming moments. From being utterly oblivious to sarcasm to officiating Jake and Amy's wedding and tolerating all of Nine-Nine and its craziness. He might be gone, but he'll never be forgotten.

6) Gina Linetti

Gina Linetti [Chelsea Peretti] blew everyone away with her zen attitude and her witty remarks against Amy. She was Captain Holt's secretary and Jake's best friend. And was briefly Charles' sister before they pretty much did the deed.

Linetti is a very flamboyant personality and never fails on her epic comebacks and burns. She consistently leaves Amy speechless, and Holt bewildered, and somehow also saves the day. Her character's skill to leave her fellow Nine-Niner's jaws on the floor unimaginably makes for a hilarious treat at times.

7) Doug Judy

Doug Judy [Craig Robinson] is your friendly neighborhood car stealer known as the Pontiac Bandit on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Some might wonder why he's even labeled as a criminal because his personality doesn't match one in the least. Judy is known for often gaining Jake's trust and then hilariously blindsiding him.

Judy is rarely without a smile on his face in the face of a dangerous situation. Especially, when he's stealing a car and is surrounded by cops! No matter how many times Judy ditches Jake, there isn't anything he wouldn't do for him.

8) Hitchcock & Scully

Michael Hitchcock [Dirk Blocker] and Norm Scully [Joel McKinnon Miller] are two inseparable peas in a pod! This duo provides the show with an extra oomph of comedic relief. These possibly below-average detectives are observed often stuffing their faces with anything they can eat and are pretty much glued to their seats.

Used to doing the absolute bare minimum, the two are seldom part of a major storyline. Hitchcock is the pervy yet respectful old man while Scully is the oblivious man who will do anything including faking a heart attack just for a doughnut.

9) Kevin Holt

Kevin Holt [Marc Evan Jackson] as the name suggests is Caption Holt's husband. Have you ever heard of the saying, when you like someone you tend to become a lot like them? Well, it looks like that's what happened with the Holts! While Kevin's husband does smile sometimes, Kevin maintains a resting frowny face.

It's exceedingly rare to see him crack a smile or even deduce a matter being funny, let alone hilarious. Nevertheless, he formed a beautiful bond with the other characters on Brooklyn Nine-Nine as the seasons went by.

10) Rosa Diaz

Rightfully last on the list is Detective Rosa Diaz [Stephanie Beatriz] - the cop who is possibly allergic to smiling. Rosa's grunge aesthetic is favored by her love of keeping weapons such as knives and barbed wire hidden for emergencies. That alone explains a lot about her character.

She doesn't do smiles, tears, or hugs but, will break the no-hug-code for special occasions only. While she may not deliver humor, Rosa is a true baddie on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and is in a way the glue that holds everyone together.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine might be over for good, but the memories and the joy the show spread will remain evergreen in the hearts of fellow Niners.
