One of the most unexpected scenes in The Big Bang Theory Season 9 Episode 2, "The Separation Oscillation," is when Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Penny Hofstadter (Kaley Cuoco) kiss without warning and this unique scenario is set in a dream sequence within the disturbed psyche of Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki).

After confessing to a previous error, Leonard is experiencing remorse. In his dream, Sheldon offers a peculiar remedy for his mental distress and says,

"There's a simple solution"

This way, he suggested that Penny kiss another man to put things in perspective, and Sheldon fills in for the kiss, of course.

What follows is an awkward yet surprisingly intense interaction between Sheldon and Penny. In the dream, Penny, who is normally the emotionally open character, leaps into Sheldon's arms and wraps her legs around his and all the fans who were accustomed to Sheldon's shyness and reluctance with physical contact may have found this scenario strange and Sheldon's character had never been shown as capable of such aggressiveness. Thus, the scene took everyone by surprise.

During the filming, Jim Parsons, who portrayed Sheldon, was taken aback by the audience's response; however, particularly when the time came, the audience's response was total stillness rather than laughing, and this uncomfortable, astonished quiet echoed Leonard's bewilderment in the dream.

Despite the stillness, the kiss between Sheldon and Penny sparked excitement. This was among all the viewers, and even though it was a dream, several viewers considered the scene to be remarkably chemistry-filled in The Big Bang Theory.

Some fans even wished the kiss wasn't a dream, and all wondered what would have occurred if Sheldon and Penny had pursued a romantic connection. Due to this, the kiss caused debate as per the show’s storyline.

In addition to being startling, the scene was noteworthy for the way it experimented with the dynamics of the characters, and Amy and Sheldon had always been described as having a calm, methodical relationship. In that they seldom ever showed physical love. Even though it was short and fictitious, this kiss was a sharp contrast. The Big Bang Theory viewers were left wondering what would have happened if the program had ventured to consider that scenario.
