The Rookie Season 7 Episode 12 makes good use of April Fool's Day to deliver a chaotic episode where all hell breaks loose, thanks to Tim's new social media intern.
Lucy and Tim take advantage of this day and hook up again, claiming their casual union is a free pass for the day. However, Celina catches Lucy and confronts her about the office romance, but she assures her that nothing is going on between the ex-lovers.
Nolan gets an incompetent rookie, which makes his already bad day even more of a disaster.
Here is the complete recap of The Rookie Season 7 Episode 12.
The Rookie Season 7 Episode 12- Tim's new social media intern wreaks havoc in LA
Part of the credit—rather, all of the April Fool's Day chaos credit—in The Rookie's latest episode goes to Tim's new social media intern, Libby. Tim hired her to post some positive things about the LAPD on their Twitter account to rebuild their image.
Instead, Libby thought it would be cool if she posted that people could engage in crimes and the LAPD would not do anything to them. So she posted "Parking Ticket Amnesty Day," claiming that people would not be written off for parking violations for today, which created havoc for the city. When Tim confronts her, she backfires on him, saying she is working on their social media game.
Tim finally fires her when she again posts a 'Get out of jail free card'. However, she decides to get revenge on Tim for insulting her and posts this:
"City of LA: For the next three hours, ALL CRIME IS LEGAL. Go nuts, and don't call us."
But her revenge shenanigans end up biting her in the face because she gets trapped inside a building and taken over by some shooters. Scared, she calls Tim for help, and he arrives with Lucy and Celina. The SWAT team manages to take control of the situation, and Tim rescues Libby, after which he arrests her for causing the chaos in the first place.
The Rookie Season 7 Episode 12 - Nolan gets an incompetent rookie
Amidst this chaos, Nolan has it worst because he hates April Fool's Day. His day gets even more unbearable because a new rookie, Connor Craig, is assigned under him. While Connor had 12 months of training prior to coming to Nolan, seeing his new rookie's incompetence, he thinks it's an April Fool's prank on him.
In The Rookie Episode 12, Connor does many stupid things, like driving recklessly and giving himself a parking ticket. When Nolan cannot take it anymore, he talks to Grey, who tells him that Connor trained under Sgt. McAdams, who had no complaints about the rookie. If Nolan complained against him, the department might think him incompetent. Nolan talks to McAdams, who tells him that he wanted to have a good record before retirement, which is why he never bothered complaining (or training) Connor.
Nolan and Connor are assigned a domestic violence case of Teddy and Anita (from The Rookie Episode 6). Since Teddy is a violent man, he punches Connor while on duty, and they arrest him.
However, the duo hears that Anita bailed him out and Teddy was shot in the mayhem caused by Libby's post. When they arrive on the scene, Anita reveals that Teddy was shot by the mob that had taken over the LA streets. However, Connor notices the car seat was moved, indicating that someone like Anita was driving the car. He concludes that Anita killed Teddy after seeing Libby's post.
Later, Connor discovers evidence against Anita in one of the crime scene selfies, which solves the case and somehow redeems him. Nolan realizes he has potential but needs proper training, which is why Grey and Nolan transfer him to a quieter precinct.
