The Night Manager Season 2 Episode 2 further cemented the mystery of Teddy Dos Santos as it revealed the truth about his identity. It seems that the season is setting up a reckoning for Jonathan Pine as he and Teddy share a deeper connection than the former anticipated. But for now, Jonathan, who is under the new identity as a banker named "Matthew Ellis", is safe as Teddy needs him.

However, this could change at any time as Teddy could discover his "banker's" secret at any time. Therefore, the second episode further adds to the mystery of the series, as fans are excited to catch the next and third episodes of The Night Manager Season 2, releasing this Sunday.

The synopsis for The Night Manager Season 2, Episode 3 suggests that things will go wrong for Pine as soon as he manages to gain Teddy's trust:

"Pine gains Teddy’s trust and secretly finds the proof he needs to connect the Cartagena shipment to covert British intelligence interests. But then things start to go wrong."

What happened in the second episode?

The Night Manager Season 2 premiere set up Jonathan Pine's return as a field agent. The episode ended on a cliffhanger as Jonathan was almost killed in a blast in Spain. However, the second episode resolves this issue by revealing that Pine survived the blast. However, he does fake his death again and takes up the identity of "Matthew Ellis", a playboy banker.

Meanwhile, MI6 chief Mayra Cavendish dissolves the Night Owls, but senior MI6 officer Basil Karapetian, who is helping Pine, is deceiving her by surveilling her operations. As that happens, "Matthew Ellis" meets Teddy, and learns that the latter wants to resolve prosecutor Alejandro Gualteros, who seized an important shipment. Pine also meets Roxana and recruits her to help him.

Pine also hires Martín Álvarez, a private detective, to look into Teddy, and discovers that "Dos Santos's" real name is Eduardo Vidal, who is also Roper's illegitimate son. Teddy gets the shock of his life as Gualteros freezes all of the former's accounts, prompting him to approach "Ellis" for a loan. Teddy invites the banker to the former's villa, along with Roxana.

There, Teddy deliberately parties with Roxana and Pine to get the "banker" inebriated. Under questioning, Pine sticks to the cover story, and Teddy accepts it.

"Pine is on the run and using a new identity. Under the name Matthew Ellis, he travels to Colombia to get inside Teddy dos Santos’s operation and uncover the mystery of the Cartagena shipment."
