The Night Manager Season 2 Episode 2 recap:
Here are some of the major events in The Night Manager Season 2, episode 2:
- Pine survives the blast
The Night Manager Season 2 premiere concluded with Pine caught in a blast, but we learn that he survived it. But Pine still fakes his death and takes up a new identity to look into Teddy Dos Santos. Now, Pine introduces himself to the Colombian philanthropist as a playboy banker, "Matthew Ellis", in the latter's charity gala. There, Pine also meets Roxana, whom he hires to work for him.
At the gala, Pine also learns why Teddy may come to him one day: because the philanthropist is having troubles with prosecutor Alejandro Gualteros, who has seized one of his shipments.
- Basil Karapetian
We also meet Basil Karapetian, a senior MI6 officer and Pine's suspended Night Owls colleague, Sally Price-Jones. They both help Pine in creating his "Matthew Ellis" identity. Mayra Cavendish had dissolved the Night Owls earlier in the episode, but Karapetian is currently deceiving her, and he also sets up a surveillance unit to tail her.
- Teddy's secret
Pine hires private detective Martín Álvarez to look more into Teddy and learns a secret. Teddy Dos Santos is not even his real name. Instead, his real name is Eduardo Vidal. Moreover, he is Richard Roper's illegitimate son. This revelation is why we know the reason "Dos Santos" claims to be Roper's "true disciple" in the first episode.
- Teddy's problems intensify
Gualteros makes another major move against Teddy in the last act of this The Night Manager Season 2 episode, by freezing all of the philanthropist's accounts. Therefore, Teddy approaches the man he believes to be the banker, Matthew Ellis, for a loan. Teddy invites the "banker" for a party at his villa along with Roxana.
- Teddy interrogates the banker
At the party, Teddy intentionally gets Pine drunk to make him inebriated. When Pine gets inebriated enough, Teddy interrogates the "banker". But Pine sticks to the cover story, and Teddy accepts it, ending the episode.
"Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) thought he’d buried his past. Now living as Alex Goodwin – a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London – his life is comfortingly uneventful. Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva). On this perilous new journey, Pine meets Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), a businesswoman who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army. As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late."
