Channel 4 aired The Great British Bake Off 2024's second episode on October 1, 2024. It featured vital moments, including an elimination, a Star Baker reveal, and one player leaving the show.
Fans might already know about Jeff, who was absent from the second half of the debut episode and left the show in the second episode. As for the elimination, baker Hazel was eliminated during Great British Bake Off Season 15 Episode 2, followed by the Star Baker announcement, which was Sumayah.
The official synopsis for the second episode of the baking competition reads,
"The bakers face the challenges of biscuit week, making Viennese sandwich biscuits in the signature challenge before making their own biscuit puppet theatre in the showstopper."
Jeff and Hazel left The Great British Bake Off 2024: Episode 2 explored
The second episode featured two participants leaving the show. Jeff, 67, decided to leave the show following his health issues. Another baker, Hazel, 71, was eliminated based on her performance.
The show's first week, "Cake Week," featured no eliminations; hence, the second episode was supposed to have two eliminations. However, only one other baker, Hazel, was eliminated after seeing Jeff's self-elimination.
Here are all the details regarding each participant's elimination from The Great British Bake Off 2024.
Hazel, 71
In The Great British Bake Off 2024 Episode 2, Hazel was eliminated. It was because she could not impress the judges with her performance. She made Viennese sandwich biscuits and biscuit puppet theatre. As a result, co-host Alison announced her elimination. Hence, Hazel, the former nail technician, had to leave the tent.
After her elimination, Hazel revealed that she gets distracted easily and likes it when "no one is around" her while baking. She described the "Showstopper Handbag" as her best moment. Furthermore, the eliminated participant shared that she hoped to be “baking” on Instagram.
"What can I say, I have had the most wonderful experience of my life being in the famous tent, to meeting 11 amazing bakers who are all truly wonderful people, and I am so proud to call them my Bake Off family," mentioned Hazel via her letter.
She mentioned the GBBO as something she would always "truly treasure" and shared her appreciation for the show and fellow bakers.
Jeff, 67
Fans saw that Jeff had health concerns, which caused him to leave the show temporarily during the first episode. However, later, Alison revealed that Jeff would be joining the bakers in the second episode, which he did.
However, Jeff's presence in the tent was not that long, as he had to leave, this time, permanently from the fifteenth season. Despite Jeff's return, he could not continue to compete on The Great British Bake Off 2024 because he was still feeling "woozy."
While leaving the show, Jeff shared that "that time around" wasn't "right" for him; however, he had enjoyed his time there. In his after-show interview, Jeff revealed that he enjoyed fellow bakers’ "company" despite the "short time" he got to know them.
Jeff described how he felt "baking in the tent" as
"It's very different in the tent to when you are practicing at home, because you are not in your own kitchen. And when you are at home you just start again, but you can't do that in the tent! That is the whole element of the competition I guess which makes it watchable TV!"
In his letter, Jeff mentioned that he had the "pleasure" of meeting "incredible" bakers from the 15th series and that they were "excellent bakers."
Depending on their location, fans can stream The Great British Bake Off 2024 episodes on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Channel 4.
