Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld arrives on Disney+ on May 4, 2025, featuring Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane. This is the third entry in Lucasfilm Animation's Tales series, following Tales of the Jedi (2022) and Tales of the Empire (2024).

Unlike the previous installments, which focused on the Jedi and the Empire, this one explores the galaxy's criminal underbelly. Set after the Clone Wars during the Empire's rise, it tells new, canon stories about bounty hunters and outlaws evading Jedi and Sith control.

The six-episode series stars Ventress, now armed with a yellow lightsaber and hiding from Order 66, as she helps a Padawan survive. Cad Bane returns, facing an old ally turned Marshal.

Nika Futterman and Corey Burton reprise their roles, with Dave Filoni as creator and supervising director. The trailer and poster are out, hinting at major action and familiar faces.

What is Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld about?

Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld is a six-part animated anthology that centers on characters living beyond the Jedi-Sith spotlight. Taking place after the Clone Wars and during the Empire's early rise, the series delves into the galaxy's darker aspects—featuring bounty hunters, smugglers, outlaws, and individuals striving to survive.

The narrative follows two principal characters: Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane. Ventress, previously Count Dooku's personal assassin, returns after being presumed dead. In the trailer, she is seen cloaked with a yellow lightsaber, safeguarding a young Padawan post-Order 66. While she attempts to remain under the radar, trouble still manages to find her.

Cad Bane, who continues to function as a lethal gunslinger, has his own arc. He is depicted in yet another tense blaster face-off, with steelpeckers circling above—a nod to his appearance in The Book of Boba Fett. This time, Bane faces off against an old acquaintance now serving as a Marshal, placing them at odds.

This series goes beyond mere shootouts and lightsaber duels; it explores the fates of characters like Ventress and Bane after the grand conflicts have concluded. These individuals survive by remaining formidable, and Tales of the Underworld immerses viewers in that reality.
