What is the plot of Rescue: HI-Surf about?

Rescue: HI-Surf is shot on the North Shore of O'ahu, Hawaii. It is infamous for rough waters and world-class surf breaks. This team of lifeguards, led by Sonny Jennings, will patrol those rugged shores. Each episode shows bravery as they save lives in life-threatening conditions by exploring personal relationships among the team members.

The pilot episode introduces the major team, which comprises, amongst others, Sonny Jennings (Robbie Magasiva), Em Wright (Arielle Kebbel), Will Ready (Adam Demos), and Laka Hanohano (Kekoa Kekumano). They fight through the power of waves to save young tourists and local surfers alike.

Personal stakes are also high as Sonny cannot stop relating to the loss of his nephew Zion, an incident he feels responsible for. The show delivers the works by blending some electrifying rescue missions with very emotional backstories.

Episode 2, "Mauka to Makai," offers a pivotal moment when Em Wright goes against Sonny's orders and rescues a tourist who was swept away by a flash flood. This episode sets the tone for what viewers can expect: life-or-death situations that push characters to their limits physically and emotionally.
