Premiering on Netflix on April 3, 2025, Pulse, with 10 episodes, has already hooked the viewers with its tight and tense storyline. The official synopsis of the show, as mentioned on Rotten Tomatoes, reads,

“A group of ER residents navigate medical crises and personal drama amid a divisive allegation at their Miami hospital.”

The incidents that have been building up throughout the initial episodes reach a boiling point in the final episode, and most of the main characters’ fates are revealed by the time the credits roll.

Talking about how her character Danny’s arc is dealt with in Pulse, Willa Fitzgerald told TUDUM

“It was an amazing moment to shoot. It was an amazing moment for the character as well. It was both this cathartic release for Danny and this surrender to the literal tides of her life and the things that she cannot control.”

Let us now explore the ending of Pulse in detail and find out how Danny’s ambition of becoming the chief at Maguire Medical Center in Miami ended.

The following article contains spoilers.

Xander’s career gets back on track by the end of Pulse

One of the key plot points of Pulse was how Danny’s sexual harassment allegations against Xander got him suspended and led to Danny working as an acting Chief, a role she handled brilliantly.

While the charges made by Danny initially raised many suspicions given the image that Xander had at the hospital, it is eventually revealed that they were in a relationship, and Xander had not informed the HR about the same, which is essentially against the rules of the workplace.

Xander’s suspension leads to a lot of people getting angry, including his family members, who are also big donors for the hospital. By the time Pulse concludes, Xander is seen to be getting his career back on track and it seems like nothing ever actually happened to him.

He even gets the promotion he had been eyeing and while Danny had to suffer viciously because of complaining against him, he returns as a free bird and is given the best treatment.

This unequal treatment of Xander and Danny highlighted the unfair gender dynamics that are so rampant at workplaces. Despite performing extremely well, Danny had to suffer, whereas complaints of sexual harassment fail to make a mark on Xander’s career.

Danny does not become the chief at Maguire Medical Center

Right from the beginning of Pulse, it was established that one of Danny’s dreams was to become the chief of Maguire Medical Center. She even proved her worth when she replaced Xander as he got suspended because of the allegations she made against him. However, by the end of Pulse, Danny does not become the chief; instead, the position is given to Sam Elijah, who also happens to be her best friend.

Danny’s not becoming the chief has to do more with hospital politics than her worth as a doctor. She did very well as the acting chief in moments of peak crisis, which impressed Natalie Cruz, and she even got ready to promote her to the position of the chief. However, as Danny’s complaint got Xander suspended, it made his mother extremely angry and the prospect of Danny becoming the chief naturally did not go well with her.

As Cruz does not give in to Xander’s mother’s demand of firing Danny, she is made the Chair of Surgery only whereas previously she was the Chair of Surgery and Emergency Medicine. This new person who takes over the Emergency division does not share a good relationship with Cruz and in a move to show both Danny and Cruz their worth, the new Chair makes Sam the chief.

While the series finale did answer some lingering questions, like how Xander and Danny ended up professionally, the fate of Tom Cole, who got involved with a paramedic at the hospital named Nia, hangs in the air.

Pulse can be streamed on Netflix.
