Cruel Intentions is a television series that aired on Prime Video on November 21, 2024. It is based on the 1999 film and the 1782 classic Les Liaisons Dangereuses. The drama adapts the narrative to a modern collegiate setting, emphasizing themes such as power, treachery, and manipulation.
Step-siblings Caroline Merteuil (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lucien Belmont (Zac Burgess) battle for dominance of Manchester College's Greek life. They utilize manipulation and deception to acquire power and remain at the top, creating a tense and dramatic environment throughout the performance.
Cruel Intentions was canceled on March 10, 2025, notwithstanding these cliffhangers, and due to this, there won't be a season 2. The program failed to reach Nielsen's Top 10 streaming charts and battled poor audiences.
More about the possibility of Cruel Intentions season 2
A dramatic ending marked the end of Cruel Intentions' first season. The show focused on Caroline and Lucien, step-siblings who manipulated others to keep their position of authority at Manchester College.
In order to keep her sorority from being shut down following a hazing episode, Caroline had arranged for Annie Grover, the vice president's daughter, to join it. Caroline had given Lucien the duty of seducing Annie, but when Lucien started to feel something for her, friction between the two arose.
Caroline's plotting reached new heights in the season finale. She posted personal Lucien videos to damage his reputation and coerce Annie into joining the sorority. In retribution, Lucien slept with Caroline's mother and filmed the experience, which fueled their animosity. Meanwhile, Annie became aware of Caroline's manipulative behavior, which made her reconsider joining the sorority.
The Prime Video show will not return for a second season, despite the dramatic ending. Following the first season, Prime Video declared that the series would be discontinued. With a 24% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the program garnered negative reviews and had trouble drawing in a large audience. Amazon did not reveal audience figures. Thus, it was unclear how many people watched the series. Additionally, it did not make it onto Nielsen's Top 10 streaming lists.
The program will not go on due to its poor response and lackluster performance. Fans who wanted to see the plot develop were disappointed when Cruel Intentions was canceled by Prime Video, even though the season finale left space for additional drama. There were no plans for a second season. Therefore, the show stopped after just one.
