Johnny Berchtold's role in Reacher Season 3 is paying off, as he has been cast in Hulu's latest true-crime series, Murdaugh Murders. Berchtold recently played the role of Richard Beck, Zachary Beck's son in Amazon Prime Video's Reacher Season 3.
As per Variety, Berchtold will play the role of Paul Mardaugh, Alex and Maggie Mardaugh's son. His character description is as follows:
“Alex and Maggie’s hard partying youngest son who constantly finds himself in some form of trouble or another, Paul is always on the hunt for a good time regardless of the consequences.”
In addition to Reacher Season 3, Berchtold's recent roles include Snow Falls, The Passenger, and Tiny Beautiful Things.
Hulu's upcoming true-crime series Murdaugh Murders is based on the infamous scandal involving the Murdaugh family.
Three generations of the family maintained their social and affluent image as South Carolina's circuit solicitors. However, their elite facade started to fade after their fourth-generation son, Alex Mardaugh, was accused of $8.8 million embezzlement from his clients, and his wife, Maggie, and son Paul were found dead in June 2021.
Earlier, actors Patricia Arquette and Jason Clarke were confirmed to play Maggie and Alex Mardaugh, respectively.
Hulu's Murdaugh Murders cast two new actors
In addition to Berchtold, who will join Clarke and Arquette as cast on Hulu's Murdaugh Murders, American actor Will Harrison is set to play Buster Murdaugh. His character description (as per Variety) is as follows:
“The golden boy of the Murdaugh family, Buster’s well on his way to following in the legal footsteps of his father Alex and grandfather Randolph. Buster’s also the apple of his mother Maggie’s eye, a lifelong source of tension with his younger brother Paul.”
Harrison is famously known for his roles in Daisy Jones & the Six and Manhunt. Alongside these, earlier, actors Patch Darragh and Ryan Paynter were also cast as John Marvin Murdaugh and Anthony Cook, respectively.
The upcoming true-crime series is created by Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr and is based on journalist Mandy Matney's reporting. Matney first brought the Murdaugh scandal to light in her Murdaugh Murders Podcast.
With Berchtold and Harrison's casting as the Murdaugh siblings, the series is taking shape, and the world will see this infamous scandal on the small screen. While we know the fate Berchtold's Paul suffered, it would be interesting to see the actor's portrayal.
