The Handmaid's Tale showrunner assures fans of a complete ending for June despite a sequel series

The Handmaid's Tale is one of the popular dystopian series. It is based on Margaret Atwood's 1985 book of the same name. The program debuted on Hulu on April 26, 2017. It quickly became a cultural phenomenon.

It won praise for its compelling story and strong performances. The show looks at Gilead, a totalitarian regime that uses Handmaids (fertile women) as slaves for reproductive work.

The Handmaid's Tale showrunner are Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang. Recently, in an interview with ScreenRant on April 1, 2025, they promised fans that June Osborne's narrative would have a full and satisfying ending. Chang added:

"There's still probably a very big cliffhanger... but it was such a blessing to be able to wrap up this amazing series.”

Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang are the showrunners of The Handmaid's Tale. Eric Tuchman is an American producer and screenwriter best known for his work on Anastasia and The Handmaid's Tale. Yahlin Chang, a writer and producer known for The Handmaid's Tale and ER, was nominated for an Emmy in 2021.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Eric said:

"I think fans should expect an honest, emotional, and authentic ending for June's journey."

Chang further stated that there will be a cliffhanger that sets up the sequel series, The Testaments. This is despite the fact that the last episodes will wrap up most of the main plotlines.
