Keke Palmer and Jake Whitehall are encountering something sinister in the first trailer for The 'Burbs, a throwback to the 1989 horror-comedy film of the same name, but with a modern, more edgy twist. The trailer shows Palmer and Whitehall as a couple Samira and Rob who move into his childhood home, but quite a lot of things are off in and around the big house.

We are told that the house is located in "the safest town in America," but Samira disagrees. She suspects something sinister is going on in one of the houses in the neighborhood, and launches her own investigation. Surrounded by odd neighbors, dark secrets and people who you're not sure if you can trust, the first trailer for The 'Burbs leaves you feeling something is really off in the supposed safe town.

The cast for the show also includes Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, Kapil Talwalkar, Justin Kirk, Kyrie McAlpin, Haley Joel Osment, RJ Cyler, Randy Oglesby, Danielle Kennedy, Max Carver, Erica Dasher, Georgia Leva and Kathleen Kenny.

The Peacock series is shaping up to be a smart, chaotic reimagining of The 'Burbs, with Celeste Hughey adapting the cult classic for streaming. Both her and Palmer also serve as executive producers, alongside Seth MacFarlane and Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment, who produced the original film. Filmed on the Universal Studios lot, the series keeps things full circle.

The official synopsis of the show reads,

“Inspired by the 1989 horror-comedy film of the same name and set in present-day suburbia, THE ‘BURBS follows a young couple who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when a new neighbor moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood.”

The original 1989 film The ’Burbs is peak suburban paranoia wrapped in dark comedy. Directed by Joe Dante and led by Tom Hanks, the movie follows Ray Peterson, a bored family man on vacation who becomes convinced his creepy new neighbors are hiding something sinister. What starts as mild suspicion spirals into trash snooping, backyard spying, and full blown hysteria involving equally unhinged neighbors.

In the series, Palmer is replacing Hanks' character, giving the show a brand new twist that will certainly add to it's newer, edgier premise. More details are awaited for now.

The 'Burbs will be available to stream from February 8, 2026 on Peacock.
