9-1-1 is giving Buck some intense romantic arc this season, with the midseason premiere almost making him part of a trouble. On the episode Secrets, we see Buck go for a boys night where he finds himself being attracted to a man and a woman, and later finds out they are actually a couple who practice ethical non-monogamy and ask Buck if he would like to join them as a throuple.

Although he politely declines, it's still a wild arc for Buck, who has had a long time of exploring his romantic and sensual side and this time, 9-1-1 seems to be not holding back. Speaking to People Magazine, the actor spoke about how the episode reflects on Buck's romantic side and what he actually desires in a partner. Stark stated,

"He learned about himself in that moment that he wants a person, right? He wants his person. He wants to move in the direction of being in something long-term and stable. I think he's realizing in that moment that actually he wants something that feels real and is meaningful, and that that's his goal. So yeah, I think it was a big moment of discovery, self-discovery for him."

Unfortunately, we probably won't see Buck dating for long as 9-1-1 will not be continuing the storyline for a very long time. Talking about this, the actor added,

"There isn't, thus far, much of a continuation of the dating. I think that scared him off a little bit. And he kind of goes back to… he's focusing on the job, and he's focusing on his friends and his family,"

Season 9 of 9-1-1 is officially in its feelings, and the midseason premiere makes that very clear. The episode, fittingly titled Secrets pushes the 118 into emotional and professional chaos as the fallout from Bobby’s death continues to reshape the firehouse dynamic.

The biggest emotional gut punch of this episode comes with Hen. Her struggles with her health are finally out in the open as she collapses while taking a call to do the unthinkable and bench his best friend. This season is about asking hard questions about leadership, trust, and how much of yourself you are allowed to hide in a job built on saving others.

On the other hand, Buck is still dealing with his romantic feelings and around him, Eddie, Ravi, and Athena continue navigating grief, change, and emotional recalibration after Bobby’s death. The calls are still intense, but the real emergencies are internal.
