Saturday Night Live is known for making parody skits of trending pop culture moments. This week their target was The White Lotus not long after its Season 3 finale release. The SNL skit was titled "The White Potus" and it took characters from the show and blended them with political figures to comment on the political climate in America.
Saturday Night Live ended up having to issue an apology to The White Lotus star for an unusually undignified and rude parody of their character. Here's what happened.
SNL apologizes to The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood for skit
Aimee Lou Wood, The White Lotus star who played Chelsea on the show took to her Instagram, talking about how her character's parody on the SNL skit was in bad taste, and it appeared as if they were just making fun of her appearance.
Hours later she posted a story that she had received apologies for the SNL skit. The actor's reaction on her Instagram and the public's agreement with her made the SNL issue a rare apology. However, the apology to The White Lotus star was not public, even though the skit was public and is still available to stream on YouTube.
Most of the characters of the show that were parodied were representatives of a political figure or another from the Ratliff family as the Trump family. Scarlett Johansson parodied Ivanka as Piper from the show, with an appearance from the actual Greg, played by Jon Gries.
The skit was funny up until the point where it used the characters to play political figures, but this was not the case when Sarah Sherman stepped out as Chelsea, the only apolitical figure.
It appeared as though Sherman was only there as a way of making fun of Aimee Lou Wood's appearance on the show. Aimee Lou Wood, The White Lotus star took to her Instagram to comment on how she felt about her character's parody on the skit saying:
"I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny. Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago. Yes, take the piss for sure but that's what the show is about - but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?"

Thousands of fans responded positively to Aimee Lou Wood's response to the skit and agreed that her character's parody was in bad taste. The White Lotus skit was especially hurtful for the actress as she addressed her insecurities about her looks in a recent interview with GQ Hype:
"Someone told me how much Mike had fought for me. They said ‘it had to be you, no matter what HBO said… My little head goes: ‘HBO didn’t want me. And I know why HBO didn’t want me, it’s because I’m ugly. Mike had to say ‘Please let me have the ugly girl!’ That was the thing that was in my head."
The internet came together in a rare moment of solidarity to support Aimee Lou Wood leading to SNL issuing an apology.
