Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper's Adolescence lifted some heavy weight at the Critics Choice Awards 2026, marking a clean sweep and some deserved wins. The limited series on Netflix earned much critical and commercial acclaim after its release, and the Critics Choice Awards are the latest stage from which the show came home in triumph.

Adolescence won four awards on the big night, out of the six nominations. The wins were for Best Limited Series, Best Actor in a Limited Series for Stephen Graham, Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for Owen Cooper, and Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for Erin Doherty.

In the acceptance speech, Graham stated,

"I'd like to thank all the cast and crew, because without any one of them, none of this is possible. We're all exactly the same. When I was a kid, my mom told me, 'You're never above anyone and you're never below anyone.' So we're all equal. And I think the ethos that we carried into this piece, that paid off in this production. It was a unique experience. And I'd just like to say, if you've got any kids at home, give them a massive cuddle and tell them you love them."

What is Adolescence about?

Adolescence was one of the most difficult, yet impossible-to-ignore shows of the year that dived deeper into a single question: What pushes a teenage boy to commit an act of extreme violence?

Created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, and directed by Philip Barantini, the four-episode Netflix drama digs straight into the story of Jamie Miller, a thirteen-year-old boy who has been accused of killing his classmate Katie. The story unfolds in real time across four episodes, each filmed in a single unbroken take. You find yourself caught in the family's tragedy as they oscillate between justice for the victim and protectiveness for their son.

The highlight of the show, other than Cooper's performance as Jamie Miller, is Graham's performance as Eddie Miller, the father, and Erin Doherty's performance as Briony Ariston, a psychologist. These three performances anchor the show, making it a painful, uncomfortable watch as you face the truth.

As the truth emerges, Jamie is revealed to have been influenced by online misogyny, incel culture, and relentless cyberbullying. The series examines how manosphere ideology seeps into young minds, how social media humiliation escalates, and how adults fail to notice warning signs until it is far too late.
