Jon Favreau and Amy Sedaris team up again for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series on Disney+

Jon Favreau has cast Amy Sedaris in Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series on Disney+. Favreau and Sedaris have previously collaborated on several projects including Chef, The Lion King (2019), and the Star Wars shows The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. In the upcoming animation/live-action hybrid series, Sedaris is slated to portray Ryder Allen’s on-screen mother.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series will see Favreau taking on the roles of writer, executive producer and director. The series will be produced by Walt Disney Studios. Oswald was Disney’s first animated star created in 1927, before Mickey Mouse took its throne at Disney.

Amy Sedaris is known for work in such as Puss in Boots, Elf and At Home with Amy Sedaris, for which she earned Emmy nominations.

As per Variety, Sedaris will join the cast of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit that currently includes Ravi Cabot-Conyers (known for Skeleton Crew and Encanto), Mykal-Michelle Harris (known for Raven’s Home and Mixed-ish), and Ryder Allen (known for The Penguin and Palmer).

Cabot-Conyers will play the role of a middle school student named Jake, Harris will portray the role of Jen, an artistic middle school student, and Allen will play a student named Taylor, who likes to be in the good books of his friends.

Oswald was originally created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1927 and first appeared in the short film, Trolley Troubles. In all, the character appeared in 26 shorts. He is depicted as an energetic and enthusiastic character with a love for adventure.

Oswald also paved way for Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney’s most famous creation, after Universal Pictures took control of character in 1928 due to a contract dispute. The Walt Disney Company acquired the trademark for the character in 2006 and Oswald finally made its way to the public domain in 2023. Oswald also appeared in the 2010 video game called Epic Mickey, where the character acts against Mickey.

The details about Oswald the Lucky Rabbit have been kept under wraps, but it is anticipated to be a family-friendly Disney venture. Sedaris' casting will also ensure the comedic aspect of the show.
