The newly released American Murder: Laci Peterson is igniting unstoppable questions and doubts among viewers who are curious to delve deep into how Laci Peterson died and what happened to her baby.
Almost two decades have passed since Laci Peterson and her unborn son Conner Peterson's decomposed body remains were found in the San Francisco Bay, in California, USA. The Netflix docuseries American Murder: Laci Peterson extensively covers the story of eight-month-pregnant Laci's murder at the hands of her husband, Scott Peterson.
This goes back to Christmas Eve of 2002 when Laci Peterson went missing, and her family and friends initiated a thorough search for her. Surprisingly, Scott wasn't spending time with his wife on that day, and it led him to become a major suspect in her disappearance.
As seen in American Murder: Laci Peterson, Laci's mother, Sharon Rocha, also stated that Scott didn't seem much concerned about his pregnant wife missing and acted innocent until April 2003, when the two decomposed bodies were finally discovered.
Months after Laci's disappearance, the police found her baby Conner's body remains near Berkeley marina, followed by Laci Peterson's dead body. The conditions of their bodies were haunting, as reported by ABC News that Laci's head and limbs were missing.
Even though Laci Peterson's decomposed body was found in April 2003, it was in the worst possible condition, and tough to determine if it belonged to a human.
American Murder: Laci Peterson - The condition of her body remains
As shown in American Murder: Laci Peterson, Scott was having an extramarital affair with a woman and didn't want to start a family with Laci.
He was highly irresponsible and careless when it came to his pregnant wife. Scott Peterson allegedly killed Laci while she was carrying the baby in her womb and then threw her into the water.
According to ABC News, the former chief pathologist for New York City explained the condition of Laci and her baby's dead body and said:
"It does tell us that the baby was in the womb for many months after Laci was in the water and Laci in fact protected the baby until the baby came out shortly before the bodies were found"
This explains that Conner wasn't born when Laci was alive, as the baby came out during the process of decomposition. The autopsy reports revealed that Laci's fetus was pushed out when her body started decaying, signifying that the baby was in the womb until the last breath of Laci Peterson.
Due to the advanced decomposition, Laci's head, some parts of her limbs, and even one foot were not found.
How did Scott Peterson kill his wife, Laci Peterson?
It is also revealed in American Murder: Laci Peterson that the exact cause of Laci Peterson's death and how she was killed couldn't be determined as there was almost no hard evidence, and most of her body was decomposed.
However, a theory was presented during Scott Peterson's trial in which the prosecutors suggested that Scott Peterson murdered his wife through soft kill, which means the killer does not leave behind a single evidence or blood stain and even erases the possibility of DNA.
However, Scott's defense attorney mentioned in the court transcript that there's no concrete evidence that could prove his client killed Laci Peterson, and that's why the prosecutors are accusing Scott Peterson.
It was believed that Scott allegedly first killed Laci and then threw her body in the water to let it decompose. As seen in American Murder: Laci Peterson, Scott even purchased a boat through which he could dispose of Laci's dead body.
Scott Peterson didn't want to start a family with Laci Peterson
Scott Peterson kept on claiming that he didn't kill Laci and his unborn child but was arrested and later charged with two murders, followed by a conviction to a lifetime in prison.
He was initially being highly cooperative with the police and investigators until Laci's dead body was discovered. Criminal investigative profiler Sharon Hagan said in American Murder: Laci Peterson that Scott had "no respect for Laci's things" after her death and even ruined his baby's nursery, making it look like a storeroom and:
"He sold Laci's car. He wanted to sell the house...These are all inappropriate behaviors."
Hagan added:
"This was not a man who was waiting for Laci to come back."
Just before his arrest, Scott Peterson changed his hair color, grew a beard to look different, and almost escaped justice. He was captured near the Mexican border, and the police even found some knives, cash, and other belongings required to flee.
He recently gave an interview to People and admitted cheating on his wife and claimed that he didn't kill Laci and their unborn son.
