Murder in a Small Town, the crime drama that follows Karl Alberg and Cassandra Lee as they work on unsettling mysteries in the quiet town of Gibsons, British Columbia, will likely see something happen to Mayor Holman. The next episode, as its title suggests, The Fall of Holman, shifts the spotlight to Mayor Christy Holman, played by Marcia Gay Harden, and raises questions about whether she's going to be in danger.
In Murder in a Small Town Season 2 episode 9, scheduled to be released on November 25, 2025, Holman may be facing her most dangerous moment yet. Creator Ian Weir has also hinted that this storyline has been planned for a long time, making it clear that her life could be at real risk.
Murder in a Small Town: what Ian Weir teased will happen to Marcia Gay Harden’s Mayor Holman
The upcoming episode of Murder in a Small Town, titled Fall of Holman, will center entirely on Mayor Holman and the threat surrounding her. The episode’s logline hints at the impending danger, stating,
“Political deception is uncovered, and everyone becomes a suspect when Mayor Holman is attacked after hosting a fundraiser at her home. Meanwhile, Cassandra gets a frightening visit from someone from her past.”
When speaking to TV Insider, Murder in a Small Town creator Ian Weir shared that Holman’s dangerous turn was part of the creative strategy from the start. He explained,
“For a lot of the season’s storytelling, the impetus for the character of the mayor was someone who would create interesting tensions for Karl and Cassandra, and I think that’s something which we were able to explore with the wonderful actor Marcia Gay Harden in the middle of and across the season,”
Weir went on to reveal that Harden’s casting inspired him to build a major plot around her. He continued,
“But yeah, for me, you don’t have an actor like Marcia in your show unless you want to put her right at the heart of a climactic episode. So right from the word go, I was looking for ways with the writers to find a story that really would involve her on all levels.”
Until this episode, Holman has mostly influenced the narrative through her political role, often serving as a source of pressure on Karl and Cassandra. But Weir now confirms that Episode 9 places her directly in the centre of the storyline. He teased, saying,
“A crucial moment in the life of Mayor Holman. She is very much at the heart of the A story in Episode 9 in a way she hasn’t been. The character hasn’t been quite that central to the A stories so far.”
This comes right after a major turning point in the season which features the return of the serial killer Tommy Cummins. With such a shocking comeback already raising the tension, Weir admitted that the writers had a challenge ahead of them. As he put it,
“We had some topping to do.”
Now, with political secrets coming to light, Cassandra receiving a disturbing visit, and Holman getting attack, the next episode is shaping up to be one of the most intense yet. The events of this episode and the decisions taken will determine the season’s final arc
Murder in a Small Town, based on L.R. Wright’s Alberg and Cassandra Mysteries, continues to excite viewers and make them speculate about what is going to happen, but we can't confirm what will happen to Holman before the next episode is released. Murder in a Small Town Season 2 episode 9, The Fall of Holman will be released on Hulu on November 25, 2025.
