The Mighty Nein producer opens up about the cliffhanger in Season 1 ending

At the very end of the final episode in Season 1 of the series, as the Mighty Nein are about to make their escape, they come across some skilled warriors of the Kryn Dynasty. This makes them realize that they will not be able to fight them. They prepare to give their all to the fight and end in a “blaze of glory.”

However, right at that moment, they see the heads of these warriors fall to the ground. From the darkness, Yasha arrives. She has killed these Kryn Dynasty warriors. She then picks up the Beacon, which the warriors were carrying. The moment she picks up the Beacon, she seems to be released from the trance that was capturing her mind.

She throws the Beacon and then falls to the ground in front of the Mighty Nein. She then begs them to help her. The episode ends with this scene, leaving viewers wanting more with the major cliffhanger. Producer Travis Willingham reveals his love for cliffhangers, saying, “We love to be left wanting more.”

The aspect of cliffhangers undoubtedly enhances the spread of news about a TV show. He adds that being able to discuss cliffhangers with friends, talk about them online, and even search for fan theories adds to the overall intrigue. Cliffhangers keep viewers “engaged in the story.” The creators were “really excited about what it presented.”

Yasha’s arrival at such a crucial moment in the series added “the final cherry on top.” The “brief glimpse” of Yasha at the very end of the episode creates anticipation about the storyline yet to come. According to Willingham, this final scene is “gonna give you a kiss, slap you in the face, and then kick you out the door.”

His hilarious words about the ending indicate that the creators put immense effort into crafting this intriguing TV show. Ashley Johnson, who helms the role of Yasha in the series, indicates that the “180-degree flip” seen in Yasha’s nature as she asks for help adds to the unexpectedness of the situation. Showrunner Tasha Huo also dives deep into the changes she had to make as these scenes came up. The “amazingly collaborative” nature of the Critical Role team helped her bring her vision to life in the series.

While discussing the future of The Mighty Nein, Willingham indicated that he wants to see “the development of Darktow.” The series perfectly captured the intense situations through which the characters go.

Right after the series dropped, there was a rise in the fandom. Hence, if a second season arrives, it will definitely bring forth intense storylines, especially after the major cliffhanger with which the first season ends.
