When it comes to Last Samurai Standing, the real sneak attack was its audio. Every oh-no-he-did-NOT hit harder thanks to Takashi Ohmama’s score. Netflix Music dropped the soundtrack on November 20, and if you want to feel samurai angst while staring into the rain, this album has you covered.
Ohmama is known for Asakusa Kid and Star Wars: Visions, Yuko’s Treasure. He knows how to narrate with music. Last Samurai Standing, on the other hand, has been adapted from Shogo Imamura’s novel and stars Junichi Okada, who plays a samurai forced into a deadly tournament for money.
And as the six-episode season barrels to a finale, the Hollywood Reporter says “[it sets] things up intriguingly for a second season.” The show is like the love child of Squid Game meets Shogun, but sounds like a thunder god!

The fun part is that every character name hidden in the titles is foreshadowing. The deeper into the album, the more you hear the transformation of each contender, until the music throws you off with “Pride of the Samurai.”
Ohmama knows the soft spots and stomps on them!
What does the soundtrack hint about Last Samurai Standing Season 2 (if it gets renewed)?
There’s no renewal yet, but Netflix didn’t stage a sword fight under fireworks in the finale just to roll credits forever, we dare to believe.
The soundtrack hints at future arcs, especially with the character-based tracks, as we mentioned before. “Shujiro – The Fading Blade” never resolves musically, so it feels like an ellipsis. Same with “Futaba – Dance,” which starts playful and mutates into something darker. That can’t be accidental.
The latter tracks (like “Next Move” and “Pride of the Samurai”) sound almost like they are staging a bigger confrontation. Then there’s “Okubo – The Price of Vision,” which seems to expand the world beyond the arena and hints that those oligarch puppet-masters haven’t even started their real game.
So what might Last Samurai Standing Season 2 look like? The mythology will undoubtedly be bigger, as the score hints at a battlefield beyond Kyoto to the Meiji era. Character-driven rivalries will flourish, too, as the music tied to specific warriors leaves unfinished arcs. There will be more casualties because did you hear “The Left Behind” and “Burden of Blood” properly?
Shujiro’s undoing will likely follow too, as the soundtrack already doesn’t treat him like a hero, but more like a man who could become a monster soon.
Last Samurai Standing is streaming on Netflix.
