Recent Jeopardy! Winner Jason Singer claimed that he had made history on the show on July 1, 2025, as he won the episode because his partner, Susan McMilia, had also won her episode a few years back.

He said that they have now officially become the first couple to have achieved this feat. However, this is not the case, as is pointed out by five-time Jeopardy! champion Kristin Sausville.

Turns out that there have been two couples before Jason Singer and his wife Susan McMilian to have won the show during their respective episodes. Before he was about to take the competition, Jason said,

"We are hoping to become the first-ever couple to have been married first and then gone on to both be Jeopardy! champions, so some fun history is at stake."

Kristin Sausville came to defend the title held by her and her husband, Justin Sausville, from 2015. She said,

"There is something really surreal and honestly kind of sinister in watching part of yourself be erased in real time. Maybe you've seen an article in the past day or two about how one of the Jeopardy! contestants last night had a wife who was a J! champion, and was hoping he would win so they could be the first married champions in J! history."

Former Jeopardy! Champion Kristin Sausville calls out Jason Singer for "not" making history on the show

Kristin Sausville has appeared and won the show many times, and the same is the case with her husband, Justin Sausville. Pointing that out, Kristin wrote that fans must be aware that this married couple has won before, Justin in 2011 and her in 2015.

But even then, Kristin said, they are not the first couple to do so, as many have come before her. Researching about the same, Kristin wrote that the first ones were Dan Pawson and Andrea Saenz.

She had issues with news media outlets running with a false narrative that Jason Singer and his wife, Susan McMilia, were the first Jeopardy! couples to have ever won the show together. Expressing her disappointment while also giving a fact check, Kristin said,

"But the local media for the guy last night took up the story and ran with it, and then other media picked it up and ran it without checking for accuracy, and now it's everywhere that the guy last night is part of the first married J! champions ever. Now that the bots have the story, it would be impossible to correct them all even if I cared enough to take the time to do so."

Kristin's main concern is that given the fact that AI feeds on information relayed by these news outlets, it won't be long before chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini pick up this info, and whenever someone searches for it, they will be given this false news.
