Fans had a lot of expectations from Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) in Squid Game Season 2, but the character failed to meet them all and couldn't find the island of the deadly games.
After the shocking revelation that The Front Man is none other than his brother, Jun-ho teamed up with Seong Gi-hun in Season 2 of Netflix's breakthrough series and the duo tried to put an end to the game.
While Gi-hun returned to the games as Player 456, Jun-ho teamed up with Captain Park and tried to find the location of the island. However, all his efforts were futile as it was suggested that Captain Park is likely The Front Man's ally.
Jun-ho was the last hope for Gi-hun and the fans, who wanted the duo to succeed, but he failed miserably. Addressing fans' disappointment with his character in Squid Game Season 2, actor Ha-joon discussed with The Hollywood Reporter:
“I do understand from the audience’s point of view, it might have been frustrating and it looked like I was just going in circles. But for me — since I had the whole narrative in mind already — it wasn’t so difficult.''

Squid Game star Wi Ha-joon addresses fans' disappointment with Hwang Jun-ho in Season 2
While Jun-ho was the only ray of hope for Gi-hun and the other players in Squid Game Season 2, he could not find the island, let alone put an end to the games.
When Gi-hun and the other players were being subjected to the horrors inside, Jun-ho was struggling to find the island, mostly reaching dead ends, partly because of Captain Park, whose villainous motives were revealed in the later episodes.
Fans were naturally frustrated with Jun-ho and his futile efforts and talking to Radio Times, Ha-joon addressed the fans' disappointment in Season 2:
''I do understand that, from the audience's point of view, it might have been disappointing. But from my perspective, I know this is part of the longer and bigger story, so I wasn’t disappointed at all.''
While Jun-ho's character arc will likely be addressed in the Squid Game finale, fans have little faith in his character. But Ha-joon teased with The Hollywood Reporter that Jun-ho will have a bigger role and 'purpose' in the upcoming chapter:
''In season three, my purpose and my arc will be fully unraveled, so please stay tuned!”
Squid Game Season 3: Jun-ho will likely confront his brother (The Front Man) in the final chapter
Squid Game Season 1 concluded on a shocking cliffhanger where it was revealed that The Front Man is none other than Hwang In-ho, Jun-ho's elder brother. While Jun-ho realized his brother's identity as the front man in the Season 1 finale, he was shot by him and fell off a cliff.
While Season 2 did not feature much progress in Jun-ho's storyline, he will likely confront his brother in the series' final chapter. Many fans are interested in knowing the origin stories of Hwang In-ho and Jun-ho and how the former ended up as The Front Man.
As teased by actor Ha-joon, Jun-ho will realise his true purpose in Squid Game Season 3 and might confront his brother.
The confrontation scene is a highly anticipated point for the final chapter and discussing fan expectations, Ha-joon teased:
“So… whether the two brothers will reunite in season three is something that you should wait to find out. But, if there was to be such a reunion, then Hwang Jun-ho would surely go through a lot of indescribable emotions such as sadness, anger and also happiness.''
In addition to the high-stakes competition, the Hwang brothers' confrontation will surely be an emotional and shocking scene in Season 3.
Squid Game Season 3 will debut on Netflix on June 27, 2025.
