Netflix's medical drama Pulse, starring Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, has been canceled after one season, as reported by Deadline. The cancellation has left several viewers disappointed, especially because the medical drama ended with several loose ends.

For those who are unaware, the show delves into the personal and professional lives of the medical staff of a fictional medical centre in Miami, Florida. The series centres on Dr. Danielle Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald), a third-year resident, caught in a firestorm. After accusing her superior, Dr. Xander Phillips (the chief resident) of harassment, she's suddenly promoted to the role.

As tensions flare, old secrets resurface, and we get a sneak peek into Danny and Xander's complicated past through flashbacks. Meanwhile, Danny struggles with her new responsibilities. Think Grey's Anatomy but with a darker and stormier edge.

Apart from Pulse, Shondaland's The Residence starring Uzo Aduba was also canceled after its successful debut season. Created by Paul William Davies, The Residence was canceled due to multiple reasons, including high production costs.

Why was Pulse canceled?

The series premiered on April 3, 2025, on Netflix with 10 episodes. It managed to garner only 6.4 stars out of 10 on IMDb and around 48% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Poor ratings and viewership might be one of the reasons for its sudden cancellation. Additionally, multiple medical dramas, including Max's The Pitt starring Noah Wyle, were released around the same time, and it completely overshadowed the Netflix show. The Pitt was also renewed for a second season after its massive success.

Even though the cancellation came as a sudden shock to the viewers, as per Deadline, the creatives and the cast were informed about it a month before. Apart from Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, the cast also includes Justina Machado, Jack Bannon, Daniela Nieves, Chelsea Muirhead, Jessica Rothe, to name a few.

How did the fans react to the cancellation?

Fans took to social media to express their disappointment over the cancellation of the Netflix series. While some viewers did find it similar to the latest medical series, The Pitt, and the long-running hospital drama Grey's Anatomy, others found the show to be quite different. Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to pen down their disapproval as they wrote:

"Pulse was so good. Netflix is always doing Justina Machado dirty with cancelling her shows," commented @divacraze

Some fans were too stunned by the cancellation, and they expressed their disapproval with comments like:

"Are you freaking kidding me?" wrote @bluGrape2012

While some even pointed out that the Netflix show was canceled after its debut season because it clashed with the release of Max's popular medical drama The Pitt.

"Pulse was DOA the moment they released it at the same time The Pitt was airing," another user wrote.
