Lydia Gonzalez, one of the breakout stars from Season 5 of Love Is Blind, has officially confirmed her split from husband Milton Johnson after three years of marriage. The couple, who seemed to be the only lasting match on their season of the Netflix reality show, have now parted ways.

In an emotional episode of the Love Is Blind podcast What’s the Reality?, hosted by fellow alum Amber Desiree “A.D.” Smith and released on June 11, Gonzalez revealed the dissolution of their marriage and the challenges and reasons behind it.

“I needed to share my truth and my experience because I’ve been suffering in silence," she said. Gonzalez said early in the episode. “More because I wasn’t ready for other people’s opinions and judgment. And now I’m ready, and I have decided that I filed divorce against Milton.”

The couple, who were married on Love Is Blind and appeared united at the reunion in October 2023, began facing issues within the first six months of their marriage.

Love Is Blind's Lydia opens up about her relationship with Milton

During the podcast episode released on June 11, 2025, Lydia Gonzalez shared that problems in her relationship with Milton Johnson began surfacing just six months after they were married on Love Is Blind. Gonzalez, 33, a geologist, said she wanted to be transparent about what had happened between them.

“This is not a session to bash anybody,” she explained. “But I wanted to share with the world.”

She stated that she had filed for divorce on March 31, 2025. Gonzalez also alleged during the episode that Milton Johnson had refused to sign divorce papers unless she agreed to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

“I never felt that my marriage was a priority for him,” she claimed.

The former Love Is Blind contestant said there wasn’t just one reason — rather, ‘a layer of situations’ led to the split.” She revealed that one of their early arguments happened after she discovered that Johnson was still communicating with an ex-girlfriend shortly after their wedding.

“When I saw that, my heart went to the floor. I felt, like, betrayed and disrespected,” Gonzalez said.

The Love Is Blind couple attempted couples therapy, but Gonzalez said it did not feel productive. Despite trying to move forward, she later discovered during a second wedding ceremony in Puerto Rico that Johnson had still not ended communication with his ex. According to Gonzalez, it took a year before Johnson finally cut ties with his past relationship.

Gonzalez described other behaviors that strained their marriage. She claimed Johnson would scold her in front of his family if she cursed and criticized her choice of swimwear, telling Smith, “I just started feeling like I was losing my spark.”

When asked whether their seven-year age difference played a role, Gonzalez said she didn’t believe the age gap was the issue, dismissing the idea that the numbers mattered. Instead, she pointed to emotional availability, maturity, support, and communication as the true challenges. Reflecting on the situation during the podcast, she admitted:

“Maybe the internet was right. Maybe he wasn’t ready for marriage.”

In September 2024, Gonzalez was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The chronic condition brought additional strain to the marriage. She described the diagnosis as “a relief” but also “a life sentence.”

She shared that her health condition strained her relationship with Johnson, particularly when he didn’t support her choice to take medical leave from work. She said fibromyalgia had affected her so profoundly that even calling it life-ruining didn’t fully capture the impact.

By the time she filed for divorce in March 2025, Gonzalez said their relationship had become “nonexistent.” She explained that she had chosen to remain silent for a long time but now wanted to share her experience openly, especially for fans of Love Is Blind who had followed their story.

“I suffered so long in silence that my healing is going to be loud and profound,” she told Smith.

Alongside the podcast episode, Gonzalez also addressed the breakup publicly through a post on Instagram. The post included several clips from the couple’s happier moments. She wrote in the caption:

“I wouldn’t change our marriage for anything, forever you have taken a piece of my heart with you, I loved you beyond the beyond, and for me Love will always be blind.”

Milton Johnson has not commented publicly on the divorce. His last Instagram post was a Valentine’s Day tribute to Gonzalez, shared in February 2024.
