The American sitcom Friends was created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman. It aired on NBC from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004, lasting for 10 seasons with 236 episodes. The show centers on six Manhattan, New York City-based friends who are in their 20s and early 30s.


Friends became one of the most well-liked sitcoms of its day and received favorable reviews during its time on air. The show received numerous accolades and 63 Primetime Emmy nominations. Overall, the show/cast garnered 65 awards and 256 nominations throughout its run and a few after the sitcom’s conclusion. In terms of ratings, the show was likewise a huge success, regularly placing in the top 10 in the final primetime ratings.

What Awards and Nominations did Friends win?


Numerous honors have been bestowed upon the series, including six Primetime Emmy Awards out of sixty-two nominations. Friends had five nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series during its run on television, and it won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series for its eighth season at the 54th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2002, the year the show was the most watched program in the US.


Before submitting for lead acting in 2002, the main cast members all nominated themselves for supporting acting at the Emmys. At the 50th Primetime Emmy Awards, Kudrow took home the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series award in 1998, while Aniston took home the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award in 2002. LeBlanc, Perry, and Schwimmer were nominated for Emmys for their roles.


Numerous guilds and societies of reviewers also acknowledged Friends. Out of fourteen nominations, it took home two Screen Actors Guild Awards: one for Kudrow and one for the ensemble. It was also nominated for two Producers Guild of America Awards, two Writers Guild of America Awards, and a Directors Guild of America Award.


Aniston's and Kudrow's performances earned the show one Golden Globe and nine Satellite Awards respectively, out of 10 nominations. Before winning the TCA Heritage Award in 2018, it received nominations for six Television Critics Association Awards.


Eleven People's Choice Awards and twelve Teen Choice Awards were among the many accolades the show received from the public. The show received nominations for two Banff Rockie Awards, a British Comedy Award, eight National Television Awards, and a British Academy Television Award in addition to three Logie Awards and a British Academy Television Award.
