What happened on Good American Family episode 4? Details revealed
The latest episode of Good American Family begins in 1995 and shows Michael at a low point in his life. This was when Michael was struggling mentally and almost contemplated taking his own life. Kristine then popped up the question of marriage, and the two tied the knot. Moving on, the episode then cuts back to the present timeline, just sometime after Kristine's New York trip.
Kristine has contacted a ghostwriter called Myra and is occupied with the preparations for launching her own book. She delegates Natalia's responsibility to Michael. Both of them are then visited by the Child Protection Services agents, who inspect Natalia and her living conditions at the Barnetts' family home. When Myra later decides to visit the family home, Natalia throws a fit and starts acting crazy as she throws away Wesley's toys.
As it becomes too much for Kristine to bear, she soon leaves for her mother's place along with her sons. Michael stays back, still believing that Natalia isn't quite the problem. When Michael is busy with an interview, Natalia ends up calling the police on him. She then confesses that she doesn't wish the family to be together and wishes that they were rather dead.
By the end of the episode, Kristine and Michael prepare themselves to register Natalia as a fully grown 22-year-old woman and arrange for a separate place for her to stay.
Mark Duplass speaks about Good American Family
Mark Duplass portrays the character of Michael Barnett on the show. Recently, he opened up about the show and his role in an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
He began by revealing that he had asked the showrunner about the efficacy of telling this particular story based on real life, especially since the case of Natalia Grace had already been amply covered in the press:
"I was like, ‘Why are we telling this story? Let’s not just be another ripped-from-the-headlines story,’ and they were like, ‘Thank you for asking because this is a multi-layered, multi-prospective version of this story that we’re going to take eight episodes to tell.’ When I realized they were going to allow this sort of Rashomon-like approach, I was like, ‘Oh, this is really something quite different.’”
He further added:
"I didn’t speak to Michael. I didn’t try to, It was pretty evident to me that I was going to be creating my own character here. Because you’re watching the story told through different perspectives, he’s actually quite different depending on the lens with which we’re watching him, so that really meant I was going to have to design this thing myself. It’s sort of my version of what Michael should be.”
Good American Family airs new episodes on Wednesdays exclusively on Hulu.
