Character-driven storytelling is set to gain another exceptional series with Maud (the working title) after eight-time Oscar winner Glenn Close has landed the titular role. The series is an adaptation of Swedish crime writer Helene Tursten's collections titled An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good and An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed.

If you haven't guessed so far, this elderly lady is not all she appears to be and has a few killer secrets hidden in her past. The delectably dark drama will be produced and developed by Playground for Sony Pictures Television and Channel 4.

Here's everything we know about Maud so far.

Glenn Close is known for her roles in films such as Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons, Albert Nobbs, Hillbilly Elegy, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Her career has been long and iconic, and the characters she's played are even more iconic. Maud Oldcastle is set to be an exciting addition to the list.

"Nina and Moses Raine are deliciously brilliant writers and Maud Oldcastle is not like any character I have played before. I am thrilled to be a part of such a stellar team."

She is set to play the "elderly lady," as referred to in Tursten's titles, but she's much more than just that. If her nice qualities are recounted, we'd be at a loss for qualities. She's cranky, rude, and mad, but hilarious most of the time. However, there are worse things than a cranky old woman. It's her. This elderly woman has a torturous, killer past.

All of this was put on the back burner as she spent most of her life caring for her sister. But, after a point, she's fed up and decides to break free from the shackles and claim a second act in life. However, she has many obstacles in her path, in the form of a suspicious detective and a world that is inconvenient to her, as the opposite of youth. But Maud does not give up easily, and the world might just find out the lines she'll cross to protect her freedom.

The brother-sister duo, Nina Raine and Moses Raine (plays like Donkey Heart, Tribes), have come together for the six-part series as the writers to bring this deliciously dark and bold story to life. Morenike Williams is joining the project as a producer, along with Scott Huff and Collin Calender as executive producers for Sony.

The Sony Pictures Television president, Katherine Pope, said about the series:

"‘Maud’ is a series that perfectly depicts our commitment to distinctive and character-driven storytelling. Glenn Close’s unparalleled talent brings extraordinary depth to this complex and captivating character, while Nina and Moses have crafted a wickedly intelligent script that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats."
